Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Anyone with 3+ losses? (an an intro on me)

Hi Everyone.

I came to this board with my earlier losses and thought I would intoduce myself. I am 26 and we just had our fourth miscarriage last weekend, when we lost our triplets @ 9 weeks.  It was so completely devastating and I think that both my DH and I were traumatized, as I started bleeding suddenly, very heavily, on July 19. It was a complete bloodbath and I passed one of our babies in the shower. My DH took him and buried him in our garden. My throat is so tight thinking about it. I miss them so much. I'm so sad and often times so angry. We loved and wanted them so much, it's just not fair. I say that a lot. It's not fair. DH said it's not about fairness, but for some reason thats all I can say. We have tried so hard for our babies, it's not fair that my wonderful husband should have to take that tiny miracle and place him in our garden.

We had a follow up appointment with my RE today to see if I needed a D&C. So far, it doesn't look like it, although I still have a ton of bleeding to do as my lining is still very thick and I have a pretty big blood clot in my uterus still. Since that sunday, I really havent bled much at all. Quite a few clots though.

Just as some background: we deal with infertility (on my part, complete anovulation) and we first got pg in April 08 but we lost the baby at about 6 weeks on May 5. Never made it to ultrasound. Second loss was my twins, lost at 6 weeks, 2 days after seeing the heartbeats, that was in late August/Early septemver 08. Third loss was very early, a chemical pregnancy, the betas never doubled. That was late December. And the fourth was our precious triplets. It has been 14 months of so much pain and sadness.

But we are not going to give up. We will try again as soon as the RE says I'm ready.  We have been with our specialist for almost 27 months. I just keep trusting in God that we will get our miracle that we get to meet.

The only things we have found through testing are that I am Hetero for Factor V Leiden (we knew before TTC), and hetero for MTHFR (C677t). Both of which I am treated for with extra folic acid, baby aspirin, and lovenox. Everything else has checked out on us. It seems we have run out of things to test for, which worries me.  If anyone has had 3+ losses, have you been dx with anything?  What further testing will they do and what have you already done?

TIA.

  • this is one of the saddest things i've ever read.  i haven't gone through what you have, but i did see on Tommy Lee's true hollywood story that his mother had FIVE miscarriages before she had him, and then he had a sister after that, so i am glad to hear you are not giving up.

  • I am so very sorry for your losses.  I haven't not had 3 losses, I have had two at completely different stages in the pregnancy.  I hope that they are able to help you in some way and help you to successfully carry your baby to term.  Hugs, you will be in my thoughts.
DD(9)DD(5.5)DS(3)DS(born 2/1/11) July 2006, lost a baby at 8 weeks, natural miscarriage , May 2009 lost Zoe Eliana at 17 weeks no reason known, possible under developed organs. Lost two more babies in September 2009 at 7 wks 4 days. Had myomectomy surgery to remove a large fibroid in November 2009.
  • Hi again. I am very sorry that you have to do this again.  We actually have the same diagnoses.......hetero factor v leiden and hetero MTHFR.  My RE had me start folic acid, b6, b12, baby aspirin and the daily lovenox injections with my 4th pregnancy.  When I miscarried again, he said we would do the same thing next time and we did......I miscarried my 5th baby last week.  Our RE told us that the next step for us would be IVF, but FOR US, in OUR situation, it probably will not increase our chances.  This is because our babies have all been normal and he feels strongly that it is a blood clotting problem.  If we would have had a lot of chromosomal issues, then yes, this would be a good next step.

I'm sorry.  I really don't even know what to say, because there is nothing to say to make you feel any better.  I can give you more of my story or listen to yours.  If you want to talk at all, let me know.

  • I'm so very sorry for all of your losses. Have you had any genetic testing done on the babies? That's the only other thing I could think of. BIG HUG!

  • I'm so sorry for all your 7 lost babies.  I've lost 6, but in 2 pregnancies.  I carried my remaining twins from the last pregnancy to 22w5d and lost them because of a series of events probably brought on by losing 3 of the 5 at 12 weeks, and just the fact that having quints to begin with is so high risk.  The dr did say that in any subsequent pg I would be considered high risk and, therefore, see the peri right away as well as the ob.  I also might need a cerclage early in the pg to hopefully help my chances of carrying to term.  One other thing that I took for the whole first tri, from the time I did my IUI, was prometrium (2 tabs vaginally twice a day).  They thought that could help me after my m/c (I had lower progesterone numbers).

You and your DH are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

  • (((HUGS))) You and your hubby are in my prayers. ?I don't have any suggestions for you but I hope the dr figure out something for you that will help. ?Your strength and determination is inspiring!

  • Im so sorry for your loss.  Your story is heartbreaking.  I have had three losses, but one was many years ago and was a chemical pg in 1998.  I am homozygous MTHFR.  I am on Folgard now.  They didnt know until after my last loss that I had MTHFR...  But I do have two healthy children (13 yrs & 4 yrs)

I had a blighted ovum in October 08 which required a D&C.  Got pg in November with Grace, and carried her to 18 wks.  I had an infection called Chorioamnionitis - which is an infection of the amniotic fluid.  It caused my water to break and I delivered her at 18 wks - too early for her to survive.  They arent sure if MTHFR played a part in either one of those losses.

We are ttc again now.  The dr told me to come in at 6 wks if I get pg again. I did switch dr's after my last loss because I felt that the other dr wasnt proactive enough.  I was having problems for a long time and they told me everything was fine without doing any tests..

I am so sorry you are going thru this.  (((hugs))))

    Sadly, I'm with you.

First loss at 6w; a high risk pregnancy fraught with complications the miraculously resulted in a IUGR preemie; second loss at 10w - twins (I, too delivered one on my own, and needed a D&C for Baby B); and our third loss was a stillbith at 25w on May 19 of this year.

I was dx last week with the same conditions you have, in addition to having developed pre-e with both Seth and Duncan.  I'm a mess, too. =(

But I hope you take a small measure of comfort of knowing that I had a healthy baby boy -- by the skin of my teeth, yes, and the hardest thing I've ever done, but the fact remains -- I DID IT.  yes, I'm 1 for 4 but I did it.  And I truly believe you will, too.

If you ever want to chat, my email is mrsmsg@hotmail.com.  I've been on the boards for what seems a lifetime, and I'd love to support you in any way I can.
