Car Seat Question

How did you choose your car seat?  We've picked out a few that we like-and we are buying it this week...but I want to look at safety ratings...has anyone found a link that is helpful for doing that?

Re: Car Seat Question

  • We bought Baby Bargains book and chose based on their safety ratings.  I think they have a website too...try google.  We used Baby Bargains to buy all our gear...it's all so overwhelming otherwise!

  • We picked the one that went with the stroller we liked.
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • We used baby bargains as others indicated as well as personal references. We ended up w/ a Graco Snugride as an infant seat and a Britax Boulevard for convertible...up to 65 lbs.  We got the snugride in a rush but had more time to look into the convertible...we were pleased to be able to save $$ by buying last year's pattern...it was still manufactured in the current year, but had a different fabric that was discontinued...
  • We bought the baby Consumer Reports book and also Baby Bargains.

Consumer Reports did a report in 2007 and the top rated seats were the Chicco Keyfit30 (which we bought) and the Graco Snugride. ?I love our Chicco but I think the Graco has a better price and is compatible with more things (the snap n go , which is an absolute must as far as I am concerned, and there is also a swing from Graco that you can snap your carseat into). ?The Chicco fits fine in the snap n go and is secure, but it doesn't snap into place like the Graco seat would. ?

  • We splurged. We have the teutonia brand. The base stays in the car, the seat pops out and snaps into the stroller base. I love it!

  • We bought Baby Bargains and subscribed to Consumer Reports. Very helpful, and I think it's narrowed things down.
  • We also went with the Chicco KeyFit based on CR safety ratings.  The Graco Snugride is also excellent - a good friend at work has it and uses with the Snap-n-Go and loves it.

I've heard that the KeyFit will snap into a MacLaren Easy Traveller (like the Snap-n-Go), so I'm gonna check that out, too.

  • First I checked with my girlfriends whom all have babies (4 of them at once) and they all said Britax so I decided to do lots of research online and they are one of the safest car seats. Yes, Baby Bargains also recommends them. Love that book!
