So, I was looking at the CLIMB website yesterday (https://www.climb-support.org/ Center for Loss in Multiple Birth) and they had an interesting warning on there about how people sometimes fake stories about loss for attention. We had this issue on the multiples board -- it was bad enough that the ladies there set up their own private board (people were stealing pictures of babies). Have any of you suspected this happening here? I just think it's a pretty sick thing to do to get peoples sympathy/prayers over something false or try to sell things to people hurting like we are!

hm. the only time i have seen this suspected is on a different board... like BOTB or GP or something. someone was getting flamed because she asked a stupid charting question, and then all of a sudden she's like "you ladies don't know what i've been through, i've had a miscarriage," yaddyaddyyah. but in her profile, she said she was hoping to concieve her first baby, and it implied that she'd never been pregnant before. so... i don't know. i definitely don't think anyone would actually come to this board and make up a story, though. that would be going waaaaaaaaaay too far.

You know I've never really thought about that, I guess the loss for me is so fresh that when I read others stories that I can relate to the pain that I give them my sympathies and prayers. I will tell you that some of the stories affect me far more than others and if I found out it was a sham, I would be ticked! Why are there people out there like that?!?!

I haven't noticed here bc the activity is pretty low and it seems to have regular posters.

VK - have you looked into eLIMBO? I belong to that as well. It's a Yahoo board that you can join as well. The link is on the CLIMB site. You have to be approved for it and also have to post your story. It's not always active but has been really helpful to me. I've gotten some great advice from there.

I don't remember how long ago it was, but there was someone who did this on here. It's been a while. It was just sick. If that women would have truly understood the pain and anguish that women who have experienced loss have gone through, I can't imagine that she would have done such a sick and twisted thing. It makes me very sad, especially since this is one of the places that has really helped me through these last few years. I trust the women I meet here because we have a common tie that can't be undone.

not here I haven't but I used to be on the webmd boards, with my first loss. There was a girl there who I knew was lying, she was really pulling people in and I felt so bad, because we were all going through our own loss, some having a much worse time than others. Anyways, I confronted her about it and she admitted that she had lied. It was really sad, she was a younger girl, I think 17.

I love the NILMDTS forum. All the parents are approved in by the photographer giving your name. So if you didnt have or are not having pictures done you can't get into the board. Protects us against things like this. The parents on there are great too.

It never even occurred to me that someone would fake a loss, but now that you mention it, it's not that big of a stretch for a public message board given the other trivial things people lie about to get attention.

It was a shame when that happened on the multiples board, because it drove a lot of the women away who were good resources for newbies to learn from. I truly hope that doesn't happen here. I am still processing our loss as it just occurred this weekend, but I hope to get to know all of you better.

As you can see from my post count, I'm not a huge poster. They monitor us at work, so when I was working in the office I couldn't get on here as much. There was a ID by the name of Kathleen Larson who faked having triplets, I believe? She had stolen pictures of someone else's kids from another blog, separate from the bump. Then claimed they died in a fire. (vkbaby09 correct me if I'm wrong, I think this was all one person, I could be mixing two people up).

Most of the regular users on that board removed all their personal info and photos from their signatures, made their blogs private and set up a private board for them to chat openly in, that you had to be approved to gain access to. These were mostly moms who had already had their babies that those of us who were currently pregnant would ask for advice. The board slowed down dramatically after that. Some of the regulars still check in from time to time to help out the newbies, and there are more new people participating all the time, but it kind of spooked everyone and made them a lot more cautious about sharing.

Oh my gosh ... the thought of someone doing that never even occured to me. That is so wrong. Granted I would imagine if someone actually did that, I would wonder if they didn't have some sort of mental disorder, seriously, it sounds like a twisted version of M?nchausen syndrome.

There are some very sick people in this world. I feel very badly for someone that would join this board when they don't have to.

Don't get me wrong ladies, I am truly glad you are all here, but I wish very much that I was still on the 1st tri board, looking forward to the 2nd tri board.

I believe that someone happened to recognize her siggy picture on someone's blog and contacted the blog person who knew nothing of the Bump account? It was earlier in the year, so I don't remember all the details. I think that was the start of people checking into her and her stories more closely.

I think there was something fishy about her facebook postings, too, regarding the fire, but I didn't follow that much since I keep my facebook separate from message boards.

Holanchi - I think you have it all right about the faker on the multiples board. I really hope people don't use our info, but if they do they are definitely in need of help...nobody should ever want to join us who hasn't had a real loss!

You ladies are amazing but anyone who would choose to be in this club has major issues. The thought makes me sick to my stomach.
