Baby Showers

How long should the shower be?

I spoke with my mom and said 12-4 on a saturday would be good.  Is that to long? Should it be more like 1-4pm?

Re: How long should the shower be?

  • Any shower over 3 hours is way too long IMO.

  • To me it depends on how many ppl will be there, if you're doing a full meal vs munchies, if ppl are coming from OOT & might like more time to catch up, etc. That being said, I think 3 hrs is about right but do you have to put an end time on it? You can just play it by ear and wrap things up a little bit after finishing the gifts/cake - people will start to leave anyway.
  • Ok thanks..yeah there will be a full meal.  There will be 30-45 people I am assuming, and I guess my mom would have to find out how long we have the hall.  Don't want it to be to long...
  • please don't make it more than 3 hours!

  • Mine is also 12-4 and I think that is just fine. If the party wraps up early, then it will end early....its not like you MUST make the party end at 4pm. For me, we just wanted to make sure we had time for everything, and assumed that some people (since its mostly family) will sit and talk and socialize for a while too, there will also be family members who are traveling from afar and havent seen each other in a while, and would enjoy spending time together.
  • mine is going to be only 2 hours, which feels kind of short to me, but it wasn't my decision. i think 3 hours is good, but 4 is fine - people will leave when they have to leave. i guess the key is to make sure that food goes out early and i would consider maybe unwrapping the presents mid-way through, or at least at 3 hours, in case people need to leave. that will then give you time to just sit back and socialize w/ your guests that stay.
  • Thanks for the input ladies!

  • I agree, no more than 3 hours.

i would say 2-3 hours, mine ran about 4 because we got started late and people were starting to get antsy towards the end, myself included!  LOL

  • Two hours I think is good, it keeps things moving so that no one is bored.

  • 3 hours is plenty long enough if you have a lot of people.  If it is a smaller shower (under 25)...you can probably do it easily in 2 hours.
  • 2-3 hours tops. 4 hours can be tortuous! People may say it's ok but they're probably itching to leave.
  • I went to a shower this weekend and by the end of the 2nd hour, people were ready to leave.
  • I agree with the people that say 3 tops.  I'm looking at around 60 (ish) people at mine and i'll still be able to get them fed and out the door in 3.  Anything longer than that would make me want to slit my wrists.
  • 3 hours is good if your hostess is on top of things.
