Crawling, should I worry?

DD was born at 33w no real issues, and is now 11 months old.  She just refuses to crawl.  She does stand, cruise a little, and pull up sometimes.  Is not crawling worrisome?

Re: Crawling, should I worry?

  • i believe that crawling is NOT considered a milestone anymore. as long as she is getting around somehow i wouldn't worry, and it sounds like she is doing fine!

Worrisome? ?I don't think so. ?Our OT was pretty adamant about Keira learning to crawl before walking though. ?I think it has something about strengthening her core and helping with coordination?

  • It is an important milestone, however especially with the nazi-like enforcement of the 'back-to-sleep' campaign over the last few years, most children are skipping that stage. Just keep working on tummy time, and encourage transitions (roll to sit, sitting pivots, rock on hands and knees, etc) I'm a peds home care nurse, so most of my babies are premies. Good luck, and rest assured, although crawling is beneficial, there are SO many babies who never do it and turn out just fine.
  • I would not worry! My DS was crawling before pulling up..(a week apart) maybe she just reversed that pattern or will go straight to walking? No need to worry at this point! I never crawled and I turned out ok:)
  • PP was right.  Crawling is not a milestone.  Some babies skip milestones, too.  My friend's baby never rolled over.  He is now 2 and can roll over, but he just never felt like doing it.  I wouldn't worry, especially if she is standing and moving around.
  • Thanks!  I really hadn't been worrying too much since she does get around, but my mom's constant talk about it being 'strange' freaked me out!

DS started army crawling at 10.5 months, but didn't crawl on all fours until a month after that (right at 11.5 months) - now he's superquick and all over the place.  She'll get there!
