I LOVE my crib--perfect shade of antique white, gorgeous antique
details and flower carvings, all the case pieces were bought to match
it--LOVE IT! Problem--it's been recalled due to faulty drop side
hardware and DD#2 is due in December--the plan was to use the same
crib, same linens, etc--we already bought a big girl bed TO MATCH this
crib so DD#1 and DD#2 could share a room! It is next to impossible to
find an antique white/antique style crib nowadays! We have received the
notice that we can return the crib for a full refund (DD#1 doesn't even
use it anymore, but the store will give a full refund--very nice!).
Anyways, DH, who is very handy, said he could easily turn it into a
stationary side crib by screwing the drop side into the frame so the
side won't move up and down anymore. Has anyone had experience with
this? What are your thoughts on this? I can picture it in my mind and
it seems completely do-able.
Re: turning a drop side into a stationary side crib
That is what I would do to. Seems logical. I would just research all of the reasons for the recall, to make sure it is just the drop side that is the problem. If it is, then screwing into a stationary crib seems the to be the most effective route.
Good Luck!
This. If it's just the dropside, then adding a couple extra bolts and screws would probably fix the problem.?
This is the second recall on this particular model--the first recall was for faulty drop side parts--new parts were given--and those were faulty also apparently, even though we've had no problems. I checked the gov website--the second recall was because the company has gone under and no new parts will be issued to correct the other defective parts so the entire crib is recalled, but it is just the drop side that is the problem.
A very obvious solution!!! sometimes it's the most obvious things that we don't see!! I might try this in the beginning, before baby gets any strength--once baby can move more and push away from the wall, though, we might need the more permanent solution.
Company (Simplicity) is now out of business, with no way to contact them.
