We're trying to decide what we want in our new house. We had a standard (freezer on top, fridge on the bottom) at our old house.
If you have the bottom freezer, do you have a single door or french doors? Do you have an ice dispenser? I don't think I want to have to get my ice out of the bottom, but I otherwise like the idea of this style.
If you have a side-by-side, do you hate it? Is it easy to keep organized? Do you find the freezer portion is too small? My parents have a side-by-side and it always seems so crammed and hard to find things, but that could be because there's always so much stuff in it.
TIA.
Re: Side-by-side or bottom drawer freezer refrigerator?
we have french doors with the freezer drawer on the bottom and for the most part- i love it.
I LOVE the fridge -it's huge and we can put big trays in there, etc. I like that i only have to open one side to grab the milk and not the entire front of the fridge if it was one big door.
as for the freezer- we didn't used to use the freezer much - so it never really mattered that thigns would get lost in there. Now we freeze things more often- so it's kind of a pain that you can't see things in the drawer as easily as a side by side - but, you can freeze larger things that woudln't fit in a SBS.... so it depends on how use you use it.
things just get lost and we never tend to dig down to the bottom of the drawer for stuff- so it ends up in there forever and by the time we find it- it's gross.
We loved our bottom drawer freezer refrigerator. I've never had a side freezer but I always felt like they were too small.
We had an LG with the ice/water dispenser in it. I loved it, but I think it would have been fine without the dispenser, too.

Depends on how big!
We had the bottom freezer at our old house and it was great because we kept very little frozen food. I had a hard time keeping things organized, but that could be just me! I found I would just throw things in there!
Now we have a side by side. We would not be able to fit anything in the bottom freezer if we had that now!
I would opt for the biggest fridge you can squeeze in there!
We have a side by side built in (meaning the fridge has the same panels as the cabinets and therefore blends in so you never notice it as a fridge/freezer). I hated the ones with the freezer drawer on the bottom. Talk about awkward! Bending over that b!tch to get stuff out is a PITA. We don't have an ice/water dispenser in the door because we have a separate ice machine in the butler's pantry and the dispenser makes the fridge more conspicuous.
ETA: Although the side by side may lend less space freezer wise, I like that it has shelves and can be somewhat organized. The bottom drawer freezer seems to be more of a clusterfvck of random frozen foods. We have a separate deep freeze in our mud room.....lots of space for frozen foods.
We have an enormous side by side that I love. My ILs have a bottom drawer freezer and our side by side definitely offers more freezer space. Plus with the bottom drawer, I would think it would be harder to find stuff, you'd have to bend down and dig around in the cold drawer. I never have a problem fitting anything in either side.
We do have our old fridge in the basement for extra storage (extra gallons of milk, bulk meat, pop, etc).
We have one of each in our families LOL!
My Mom: Has a side by side she doesn't like b/c she doesn't feel that she has enough freezer room. (Kenmoore)
MIL: Has a side by side with a drawer that can be a freezer OR fridge. Which is pretty cool since she has a freezer in her basement she uses it as a fridge for pop, snack foods, and larger items. (Hair I believe)
I have a Fridge that has the freezer door on the bottom I really love it. I have a small drawer that I put all the freeze pops, ice cream & snacky freezer foods in. My second drawer I put the vegggies, fruits freezer meals in and the 3rd drawer I but all the meat in or extra freezer meals. My Fridge part is really big too and deep I love the room I have. (Samsung)
