3rd Trimester

Most people go into labor at night?

Is this true? This is what my Sister told me. But im curious for those woman who go into labor on their own what % does the labor start (contractions etc) at night. as opposed to during the day? Just wondering. Because everynight now im going to bed thinking, Ok this could be the night! Then I wake up a trillion times to pee...and nothin.. lol Thanks Ladies!

I have read that most people go into labor at night, and that it has something to do with being really relaxed?? It definitely seems like most people start feeling contractions at night... But I really don't know - and I'm curious what others have to say!

  • I definitely feel my contractions kicking in at night...I agree w/ it's probably something to do with being more relaxed and more comfortable then running around all day :)

  • Both times I've gone into labor on my own... first was at 11pm, and second was at 2am. So I don't know.. there may be something to it. Then again, with this pregnancy, I seem to start having contractions (5-8mins apart for a couple hours, then nothing) at any point through the day.... or night.
  • I read this in Ina May's Guide to Childbirth.  She talked about it having to do with the mom being relaxed and just letting the baby do it's thing, etc.  Babies want to come into the world in a relaxing, calming environment.
  • Another interesting fact I learned on my trip to L &D last week: I asked the RN if it really is true that more women go into labor when there is a full moon. She said that it does have a slight effect but it gets really busy right before a big storm due to the drop in barometric pressure. I have never heard this thought I would pass it along.

  • This was true for me. My water broke while I was in bed, sleeping, at 1 a.m.

I keep expecting it to happen this way again. We'll see!

I live where there are hurricanes and there is a definite increase in babies being born prior and during a hurricane due to the drop in barometric pressure.

  • Interesting... I guess it kind of makes sense since I always get lots of BH and contrax late evening and at night, especially after a busy day!

With DD#1, I woke up at 6:30am with contrax that were the real thing, so it doesn't hold true for me yet ;)

And as for the full moon thing pp mentioned, my nurse told me that too.. At our birthing class they said they sometimes get up to 20% more deliveries on full-moon nights!

  • I didn't go into labour at night but had DS at 2:37 am. Does that count? I know, not really.
