DS says dog once in a while. And he says oooohhhh all the time. As in, pointing to everything he sees and saying "oooooohhhhhh". Yeah he's not a big talker... I just say he's taking everything in and one day he's going to start saying all kinds of stuff
The only word he says on a consistent basis is Dada/Daddy. But he also says Mama, Kasey (our dog) and Kitty but not all the time. He was a late babbler and an early walker so I'm assuming he'll be behind with talking a bit.
At 12 months, the only word he knew was "no". By the time he hit 14 months, he was up to 12 words, and now he's at 20+. When they're ready to start saying things, it happens fast!
DD says mama, dada, more, dog, duck, hi, bye, baba (bottle), juice, baby, out and a few others that I am not thinking of right now I know when we went to the pedi appt at 12 months we went over about 15-20 words she knew and associated the word with. Yesterday she said Punda for the panda bear she saw.
Lots of babbling but no real words except maybe mama-- says "mamama" when he's crying and reaching for me, but not when he's happy so who knows. He knows what a lot of words mean though.

DS is 15 months next week and we still don't have any words. He babbles a lot and can make the correct sounds for dada and mama and ba (ball?) but he never says them in relation to those actual things.
He wants to know the names of EVERYTHING in sight, though. He'll grab our hand and walk around the house pointing at things for us to name. And if we use a different word - like bowl instead of dish - he'll keep coming back to that object over, and over, and over - and over - again.
I'm guessing when he finally decides to talk it will be in full sentences! LOL.
DD is a great talker. Just off the top of my head, she knows mama, papa, dot (our dog), book, balloo (for balloon), cake, duck, awa (spanish for water), bow (for hairbow), bob (for Spongebob).....she's quite the chatterbox.

The words he uses in the correct context, without prompting, are mama, dada, bath, hat, grass, cat, up, eyes and baby (and sometimes dog). He also signs "all done," "poop," "milk."
He "knows" a ton of words, probably at least 60, that if you say "Where's the _____" he will point, or if you say "walk" he'll go get his push toy and walk with it.
Re: How much does your 12 month old talk?
He babbles a ton. His words are daddy (daggy), quack, balloon, bye-bye, hi, baby, and woof.?
