PTing question re: Night Training.

If your child is potty trained, how long did it take before they stayed dry overnight often enough that you kept them in underwear overnight with few if any accidents?

Sarah is entering her third week in panties and this past week she's been dry three times when she woke up in the morning.  Should I just go for it and keep her in panties overnight?  I hate laundry as much as the next person but I think it would be great to ditch her nighttime pull-ups too.  I know she'll probably have some overnight accidents initially though.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or experiences you had regarding night training.

  • I've wondered this same thing.  I can't for the life of me remember what I did the first time around. lol

That said, we've also had a couple of dry nights and she can take naps during the day and not have an accident, but I'm going to keep her in pull ups at least until the current package is gone.  lol

Can't say I blame you one bit for that one!

  • Owen has been waking up dry off and on in diapers over the last couple of months.  We started potty training Monday afternoon, and since Wednesday morning he has woken up dry every morning.  We took the plunge and did undies last night - especially after he didn't want to put on a diaper or pull up at bed time.  I put a waterproof sheet from Target (you can get near the mattress covers) between him and the sheet at nap and night time, just in case... so far, so good.  We'll see.  He is doing really well with #1 - no accidents yesterday or today so far.  Now #2 is different story for us.  He's no longer constipated but will only go #2 in his undies.  Fun times.
  • I think it was a just shy of a week straight with dry overnight pull-ups when we let Maren go into panties.  She actually woke up in the middle of the night needing to pee and used the bathroom by herself, so I knew she could fly without a net.

We had a mattress protector just in case, but she amazingly never had an accident.

  • I kept her in pull ups for a long time, but once she was dry overnight, she hasnt been wet ever and no accidents.  I think she slept in pull ups for 2 months. DH said enough is enough and put her in panties.  We never looked back.  We do have a mattress pad on the bed just in case.
  • We haven't gone there yet (and she's been PTed for 8 months now)..... K's nighttime diaper is dry about half the time, but I just can't deal with a wet bed in the middle of the night.

  • Considering I was a bed-wetter for years, I totally did not expect it to be easy, but it was.  She had been having super full morning diapers - had to use Overnighters to prevent leakage, but we asked if she could hold it until she woke up.  and that simply, she did!

She's been night-trained for months and had maybe 3 or 4 accidents that first month and that was it.

Now I'm expecting heck when we get to that point with Julia -- she's thrown me for a loop with all kinds of things!
