Ugh...heartburn

I've been getting heartburn but only at night and only in my throat. It's awful...I've even thrown up once because of it - the first time my whole pregnancy! Even if I sit up it doesn't seem to go away. Any suggestions??

Re: Ugh...heartburn

  • Calcium helps - so try milk or ice cream before bed.  Avoid spicy or acidic foods.  Eat frequent and small meals through the day.  I've also heard that chewing fennel seeds or a sprig of parsley (after a meal) can help, but I haven't tried that.

Tums are awesome, but don't overdo them.  Too much calcium can lead to kidney stones.

If all else fails, talk to your doc about taking some OTC drugs - my MW approved Zantac, and told me to start at the 75 mg level and see if that helps.

  • You haven't mentioned whether you've tried anything or not.

Change in diet, Tums, Rolaids, Zantac, Gaviscon, Prilosec...

  • I've been avoiding acidic foods and taking Tums at night. They help briefly, but I always wake up an hour or two later and it's back.

  • I've suddenly been getting it pretty bad at nighttime too... I've found that eating a small bowl of cereal or glass of chocolate milk every night before bed (whether I'm hungry or not) has solved the problem/prevented it for now! It's been for the past week or so... tums only seem to work somewhat, and zantac 75 once the heartburn hits doesn't give me any relief.... I always crave milk when I have heartburn. Good luck!

  • ive had bad heartburn my entire pregnancy, and Tums really helped at first, but they don't seem to be enough anymore. Right now watermelon has been keeping my heartburn away!
