Success after IF

reason/solution for complete exhaustion?

I'm starting to get a little concerned. I cannot seem to shake this overwhelming tiredness. I got a ton of quality sleep last night and now I can hardly keep my eyes open. this has been going on for months now. granted I take care of an infant, we moved (twice) and I have some pretty demanding clients but I shouldn't feel so rundown ALL the time!

I'm assuming I'm missing some key nutrients or something. any thoughts on supplements? sometimes I feel faint when I'm out walking with ginny. I'll grab a coke as a quick fix -- not so good.

Re: reason/solution for complete exhaustion?

  • thyroid?

    (isn't your hubby a doctor?)

I think I've read that the b vitamins are good for energy but don't quote me on that.  Maybe you should call your doc?

  • Sorry you aren't feeling well.  Sounds like you might be low on iron.  Have you had your blood tested recently?  I'm anemic and that is often how I feel when my iron levels are off.

  • I am Iron and B-12 deficient as well as anemic.  If I don't get my B-12 shot and take my iron on a regular basis it does not matter how much sleep I get I will still feel worn down and exhausted.  What you described sounds like B-12 and Iron deficiency.

The only other thing that can make you feel this way that I can think of is untreated mild depression.

  • I think if your iron is low it can make you really tired.  Maybe that's it?
  • I was mildly anemic when I was pregnant but that leveled off with iron pills. I did have a bout of ppd and was treated with a low does anti-depressant but I have been off the meds for some time now. I'll look into b vitamins. the thyroid is an interesting thought. hmmmm.

    thanks!

(and yes dh is a doctor. he can literally replace my heart but doesn't know what to think about my exhaustion. he has ideas but this is not his specialty.)

  • I think you should have both fasting blood work (to look for both high and low blood sugar) and a complete thryoid panel. Both will make you tired and feel like you are in a fog.

  • I would definitely start with your Dr. and some blood tests for thyroid and iron.  I am hypothyroid so I always can tell when my meds are off.  If it isn't that, maybe it is slight allergies.  I know that is the other thing that can completely wipe me out even if I am not sneezing or have itchy eyes.

    mean? no way!

my ob sent my to a gp when I had a sinus infection when I was 6 months pregnant. the gp was upset because he felt "insecure" treating a pregnant woman and he sent me back to my ob. the infection eventually disappeared on its own -- with NO treatment! ugh!
