since around 2 months he's been progressively more social and interactive. He started batting at his toys a few weeks ago and started reaching for toys in front of him about 2 weeks ago.

He started smiling at us at 5 1/2 weeks. Since then, he's smiled and cooed at us more and more each day. For the last 10 days or so, he's been mesmerized by his mobile--kicks and laughs for a good 30 minutes in the morning. It is so cute! Then, when I go to pick him up, he gives me a bright smile. So I would say there was huge "social" growth from 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 weeks.
Today he really smiled at me - it was the first time I felt like he was actually interacting with me. I was playing the spider game - walking my fingers from his belly up his face and over his head and making noises to him. He seemed mesmerized - stared right at me with huge eyes then smiled big, again and again, several times throughout the day. We also did peek-a-boo and that made him smile, too. He's still a ways from caring about toys I think.
She started smiling at me around 6 weeks, but not consistently or for very long. Around 2 months is when she started to smile and coo more consistently. She still isn't really all that interested in toys, but she expressed some interest in her lovie, play gym, crib mobile, and the lambs on her swing mobile around 9 weeks.
Re: How old was your LO when they started interacting with you?
