First Day of BR, any advice?

Finally on BR for PIH. Turns out my at home monitor is giving me higher numbers than I'm actually having (checked it at Dr's today), but I'm still having headaches, abdominal pain (possibly related to my liver), some contractions, some swelling, and generally just feeling jittery.

So its bedrest for a week, and then reevaluate. If I continue after a week, I'm getting steriods next week too. I can take a shower, make a sandwhich, and get up to pee, but thats it. I can drive myself to biweekly appts, and I can attend my shower this weekend.

Any advice? I hope I'm not cheating to bad by sitting up at the computer for a few minutes. The house is such a mess so the BR couldnt come at a worse time, but I dont even care at this point...im exhausted!

Re: First Day of BR, any advice?

  • Do you have a family member or friend that can come clean for you?  Or maybe splurge on a maid service. When they put me on bed rest my house was messy and my DH was out of town, he cut his trip early and came back but could not get her till the following day. I was so restless that first day cause the house was such a mess. My sister came over and helped me clean it.

Get plenty of books, I have a laptop so I stay online a lot. I sit up, prop feet up too cause laying all day gives me headaches. I would keep an eye on bp and see how much sitting up effects it.

I am over 4 weeks into bed rest. I will admit that I had a rough week last week. But I was approaching 27 weeks, which is when I had my DS. My advice, ask people for help and ask for visitors. I like having things to look forward to and am not a usually restful person. This website helps too... and facebooking...

Best of luck!!!! Sorry you are joining our crappy club!!!

  • Today is day 60 for me of bedrest...you'll have your good days and your bad days. It's not like we're prisoners of war or something. I think it's all about perspective, really. There is definitely an end in sight.

    My advice:

-- get a seat so you can sit down in the shower. Even if your dr okay'd standing up, it's a great way to conserve more energy so you can do something you actually want to do later on.

-- make lots and lots of lists. This is the only way I've kept my sanity. With so much that needs to be done in the last few weeks, it's so frustrating to just have to lay there and do nothing. I would always forget what my husband was supposed to do by the time he got home from work. Now I just write a list during the day and hand it to him. Stuff gets done.

--  If you end up having to stay on longer than a week, look into getting a wheelchair through your insurance company. I "cheat" once a week and go out to eat, do errands, go to baby classes.

-- splurge on a cleaning service. It'll be the best money you've ever spent.

I also set out to read as many books as I can before baby comes, so I made a blog (in siggie). That has been super fun and a great outlet. It also helps me from having to repeat myself to friends and family re: pregnancy updates.

Hang in there. It really is doable.

  • Hi! ?

Welcome to the BR club...though from the sound of it you have hope of not having to do this for very long which is great. ?I was put on BR at 23 weeks - 11 weeks ago. ?I can't sit up really because of my incompetent cervix to try and alleviate any pressure as much as possible. ?So, laying down on my back and sides have been my life - eating while laying down can be a challenge. ?I have bathroom privileges and kitchen access for microwaving meals, but that is it. ?It took about two weeks before I had my routine down. ?Like most women, I don't do relaxing very well, and I've had to get used to not working and not going out - we used to eat out most nights, and I pulled long hours at work and traveled. ? My husband has been doing the touch up cleaning - we hired a maid service after I got BR so that they can do the major stuff, and all we have to do is keep up with it. ?I do the grocery list from bed and help with the laundry folding while laying down. ?I've done a lot of shopping for baby gear online, and if it's a major purchase, I make a list of things that hubby can check out at the store for me on the weekends. ?Books, movies, sudoku puzzles, Face Book and this site have been my entertainment. I would typically love to have visitors, but I find that I am actually more anxious with ppl at the house when I can't entertain and move around. ?I feel so useless and guilty just laying here and visitors are having to fend for themselves in my kitchen. ?So, for the past 11 weeks, I have had two visitors since I found that I am more relaxed without ppl around. ??

You're almost there! ?I hope that it's just for a week for you and you get to resume your regular schedule.

    GL!?
