If you have a boy who likes to play with cars, action figures etc

My son is 3.5 & all he plays with are these Star Wars figures.

At first it was cute & I played with him a lot, but it has gotten old for me & I feel guilty saying No to him. I manage to get him interested in other things we can play together.. puzzles, drawing, board games but when he wants to play Star Wars guys, I just don't have it in me.
I wonder if I am being a bad mom by not sharing his interests.
Anyone else experiencing something  like this with DC?

I think it's good for kids to develop their own interests.  There's much to be said for independent play.  Now, letting a 3 year old play with toys guns is another debate.

  • I'm not crazy about the cars, but I love playing with action figures. DS have a castle that he loves to play with and I like playing with him. Honestly, I don't see it as that much different than playing with dolls -- there's just more fighting and more "bad guys."
  • Yeah, DS is waaay into trains and has been since he was 1.  It's old!  But, if that's what he loves to play with the most then I don't really care.  But good God do we have a shitton  of trains at our house!

  • Yeah, I don't allow guns. It is amazing how many things a child who owns No guns can turn into a gun though,.. A empty toilet paper roll, his cup, his fingers. :O)

I do still play them with him, I just cannot do that all day
I make block castles & Forts for his guys I even bought a playmobile castle for them to play in.

You say you don't allow guns, but the Star Wars figures are holding guns & light sabers.  I agree that kids this age will turn anything into a gun -- I'm dealing with this right now with my 3.5 year old.  He learned it from a boy at daycare who's parents allow the 3 year old to watch Star Wars & play with those action figures.

We don't allow him to have guns, He does have galactic heroes that have light sabers & I think he has a girl, that has a gun (padame maybe)
    I don't consider that having a gun.
I also allow him to play with knights that have swords, but he does not have any swords that are his size... I don't think it is any different.
Sorry you are having trouble with your son & his Star Wars friend.

That makes no sense to me at all.  It is the exact same thing as him having a toy gun.  He is "playing" with a gun.  Doesn't matter if he's holding the gun or he's holding an action figure who's holding the gun.  Please explain the difference you see.
