2nd Trimester

Does DH go to EVERY appointment?

I feel like not all appointments need him there.  Like today I have the gluose test and really he will just be sitting there.

Did your DH go to all?

Re: Does DH go to EVERY appointment?

  • He skipped the last one.  All I did was pee, get weighed, blood pressure reading, and heartbeat.

I was done in about 10 minutes.  Kinda pointless for him to go.

I think I'm going to make him go to the glucose test.  I don't want to sit there by myself for an hour.  Boring.

  • Loading the player...
  • So far my husband has been to all.  I have a doctor's appointment the same day as my glucose test so he'll go to that one as well.
  • No, he went to my first 2 appointments and the big U/S, but there is no need for him to be at every appointment.

  • Nope... DH goes to anything major... like u/s and if there are issues or something.  Otherwise, I go alone.  There is no need for him to take time off of work to be at appointments when he's just going to be bored out of his mind sitting there.

  • He has come to every one so far but, the next he won't be able to make due to work scheduling (normal weight, urine, HB check).

    This exactly. ?

  • Yes he does, even when he has to take time off work, drive 30 minutes, and the appointment is 5 minutes long.  Every time I tell him he doesn't need to come, and every time he is hurt, he feels like he has every right to be a part of everything too.  Can't argue with that, so along he comes.  Smile
  • Nope- mine are usually 10 minutes long, and it takes him 45 minutes from work to get to the Dr. He comes if I am going to have an ultrasound, or if anything else big is going on. I will probably have him come to my 1 hour though- I am so not looking forward to it!

  • He has so far but I've had ultrasounds at all of them so far.  He won't be coming to the ones when all I do is pee in a cup.  I want him there for the glucose test, I don't want to be there forever by myself!

He went to the first appt, the follow-up US, and the big US. He's not missing much at my regular check ups that take all of 15 mins, just me peeing in a cup, getting vital signs taken and listening to the heartbeat. I would feel weird having him miss work for that. I do record the heartbeat on my phone for him every time though.

  • No, he took enough time off when I was doing IVF to get us pregnant, he does not have a lot more time off and I would rather he save his vacation time for when baby is here. He went to my first u/s and will be at the big u/s. Everything else I go alone.

  • For my last pregnancy and this one, he went to the first appt, big u/s, and one other regular office visit to hear the heartbeat. If he is isn't working he will go, but usually he is working.?
  • DH hasn't been to one... he'll go to the 20w u/s because we're finding out the sex. That's all he needs to be there for, as far as I'm concerned.
  • my DH works 12 hr shifts so he has 3 days off every week so I schedule them on his day off so that he can go.  If he was working on those days he would only go if it was a major one.
  • my hubby only went to the first appointment and then to the two major ultrasounds.. the next one he will go to is my 36th appointment.

i dont think it's necessary for him to go to each and everyone of them.

  • so far, yes. he said (and i quote) "I don't want to miss out on anything"

  • He went to the first appt and the big U/S, but that's it so far.  The rest have just been quick in and outs to check things out...not very exciting for him.

  • DH went to the 1st, the big u/s and the last appt with DS (he only went to the last cause I was in labor and I wasn't sure if they would send me right to the hospital or home - i got sent some).  With this one, he only went to the 1st.  He missed the big U/S cause he is out of the country.  They don't do much, so rather than him taking time off of work for very little action...not worth it to us.  I think it is great when husbands are involved, but there are other ways to get involved too.
  • My DH has only gone to the two ultrasounds, and then one appointment when I was bleeding, and I was totally stressed and freaking out about it. I feel that he doesn't need to be there for a 10 minute appointment, after waiting in the lobby for a half an hour.
  • No, he rarely goes to any of them. No sense in both of us wasting 2.5 hours sitting, waiting just to pee in a cup and get weighed.
  • Heck yeah! He wouldn't miss anything for he world. He even comes home early from NYC to where we live in central NJ to go to the appointments. Any chance to hear from a professional how the baby is doing is like gold to him. :D

Nope, he'll be going to my gender U/Ss.  I'm having 2 one on Aug 1 (private) and one in Sept with my OB at my anatomy scan.  He'll go to those and our child birth, breastfeeding, and childcare classes.

  • DH comes to the u/s's (I get to have one every 4-6wks bc of my history) but none of the regular appointments.  The only reason he comes to the u/s's is because he likes to see the baby.  If he didn't want to, or had work obligations, that would be fine too.

  • Well he goes to every OB appt because I get an ultrasound at every visit and he doesn't want to miss that! But my bloodwork is done in a seperate lab, and he doesn't go for those appts since they are quick and easy.

  • He had come to them all. My doctor's office is close to his work and he is really excited to hear the heartbeat each time. I told him he didn't need to come to the GD testing appointment but I know he is still planning on it. I actually think it is nice to have him so interested!

  • Nope.  He goes for the big ones only--ultrasounds, setting the date for our c-section, and that's about it.  Otherwise, it seems like a waste of his workday since they typically last no more than 5 minutes with the doctor--mostly I'm waiting, answering the nurse's questions, or peeing.  He doesn't really need to be there.  It's great when dads do want to do it, but it doesn't seem necessary to me.

  • He went to the first appt to get confirmation from the doctor that we are pregnant and to all u/s appts.  He told me, after the fact, that he would've come with me to the GT but there's nothing for him to do but sit and wait when I'll be working the whole time anyway so there was no point.

  • He comes to most of the appointments, unless there's a major work conflict. Sometimes he leaves after the u/s's or before the bloodwork portion. I appreciate him being there--I get really bad anxiety at the doctor's office (I have a long, unusual, and pretty terrible medical history), and even though my OB is fantastic and I really like him, the anxiety crops up sometimes. It's nice to have another person present who also heard what the doctor said.
  • Mine's been to every one so far -- hopefully he'll keep coming -- I love that we're doing all of this together!  :)
  • So far yes. I telll him he doesn't need to come, but if he wants to I won't stop him.

  • Nope, mine has only been to 1 appointment...the one where they did the big u/s to determine gender. I'd rather he be at work making money than sitting in an office with me losing money (he doesn't get sick/vacation time).
  • DH has only been to one appointment so far which was my first U/S.  He is planning on coming to the big U/S in a few weeks also.  Other than that no reason for him to come to any others and we can't afford for both of us to take off work all the time.
  • The only appointment DH will be going to is my big U/S on August 3rd. Other than that, neither of us want him to take time off work for every appointment, even if he could. My doctor and his work are a good 40 minutes apart.

  • So far he's gone to all: 8 week ultrasound, 12 week ultrasound, 16 week belly check.

He'll definitely go to the 20 week ultrasound, which is next.

I don't think he will come to the glucose test because it will require him leaving work early/going in late and like you said, he'd just be sitting there.  I guess from here on out it will depend on his schedule and what is going to happen at the appointment...

  • Yes, because I get an ultrasound at every appt. and he likes to see them.

  • He has so far, and he's adamant that he's going to every one. I was just thinking about it this morning, though...he'll probably be back in school (he's a teacher) when I have my glucose test, so I wonder if he'll get off work to come to that one. Probably, knowing him! It's easier for us, though, since we can usually do late afternoon appointments when school is out.

  • No. My dh travels during the week so he has only been to one appt so far and that is when we saw the heartbeat for the first time. He didn't even go to my big u/s when I found out the sex. Since this is baby #2 I am not really too bothered. With my DD he went to all of the ones that I had an u/s done.
  • Only if there is an u/s.  My 16w appt was so quick, there was no need.

Yesterday when I actaully saw the doctor after my 20w u/s I peed in the cup, weighed and did blood pressure with the nurse.  My conversation with the doctor was in the hallway telling me that everything looks great from the u/s and giving me a new prescription for Nexium.  That was it.  No need for H to follow me around for that.

ETA: it helps that my doctors office is about 3 minutes from DHs work so he's not gone for long and hasn't had to take time off.
