I had an appointment with my OB last week, who did an U/S and said that I was about 7w 5d (according to my last period, I was supposed to be 8w 5d). It makes sense that I'm actually a week behind, because the first time I did a HPT, I got a BFN.. then, a week later, I got the BFP!
My OB recommended that I schedule my OB scan for 8/5, which is when I'll only be 10w 5d.. I'm thinking that perhaps he miscalculated by counting the weeks from my last period instead?? I thought that a NT scan was supposed to be done after 11 weeks.
Another question: Did your DHs go with you to your NT scans? If I leave the appointment for 8/5, my DH can come... but if I change it to a couple of days later, he won't be able to make it. =(
Re: NT Scan - Too Early?
I didn't have one done (my OB didn't recommend it because I'm not high risk due to age & we don't have a family history of genetic defects)...plus not all insurance companies cover it.
I don't know what the "early" cut off is but it has to be done by 13 weeks.
I just had my NT scan done yesterday and I was 11w6d. They found what they needed in about 15 minutes (they schedule it for an hour because they said sometimes it takes that long to find the right position).
Anyway, my husband did come, he thought it was cool since now the baby is moving all over the place. One word ? HYPER. We have a hyper baby. Although, it was a very easy test and other than being able to see the baby, I think I could have done it myself very easily.
Hope that helps!
Julie
I read in the info from my dr that it's anywhere between 11wks1day and 13weeks that they can do the NT Scan. However, when I called to schedule mine they told me between 12weeks and 13weeks 1 day. I'm going at 12weeks 2 days.
To answer the other part of the question, yes my DH is coming with me. It's so fun to see the baby, and at this point you will really be able to see it, at 8 weeks it was still blobby looking, and he wasn't really sure what he was seeing.
My OB said between 11-13w.
DH can't come to mine cause of his stupid job. He will be there for the big u/s though.
i am getting an NT scan done and my perinatologist had said that we only can do it after 11 weeks....and this guy checks his P's and Q's.
I think what you need to concern yourself with is not if your husband can come to the appointment, but on the day that you get the scan done, will that give you the most accurate information?
I would definitely call and talk to them before you go. Tell them that you think they might have miscalculated your LMP and how far along you will be at the scheduled NT scan.
The same thing happened to me actually and they tried to do the NT scan, and my husband took off work to come.. (although it was SOOO worth it because we saw the baby moving around and heard the heartbeat!!) Turns out I was 10w5d and NOT 11w5d as they thought. So they made me come back 2 weeks later when I was 12w4d for the actual NT scan.
Im just saying you dont want get your hopes up thinking that todays the day for the scan and then they tell you that you have to come back. But since DH cant get off at least then you will be able to see the baby together!!
I had mine at 10w6d. According to my doctor and the ultrasound technician, it's the size of the baby that really matters, not the gestational age. The crown-rump length needs to be big enough to get accurate measurements.
By 11w1d most babies will be big enough, which is why you hear 11-14 weeks. At 10w6d my baby was just barely big enough to do the scan, because he/she was measuring a little bit big.
Like the above poster said, worst case is the baby is too small and they'll make you come back later. Good luck to you!
