when does not gaining any weight during pregnancy become a problem? i wanted to ask my midwife this question at my last appt, but she had to leave in the middle to deliver a baby.
but i believe it can start to become an issue while in your second trimester, b/c some women suffer from bad M/S during the first.. and can end up actually losing weight.
I'm not a doctor (or nurse) - but I assume that with ALL weight related issues it depends on how big you were to begin with - I don't know for sure but it seems to make sense that if you were significantly over weight to begin with you don't really have to gain any weight - if you were normal or under weight I would think it would start being an issue in second tri .....
it depends on your weight pre-pregnancy. if you are overweight starting out, then you can have a healthy pregnancy without gaining weight or even losing weight. I know they dont worry about weight gain at all in the 1st tri & I would think as long as your baby was growing well & measuring on track, they wouldnt worry.
My OB told me it was perfectly fine if I didn't gain any weight during pregnancy. I started out overweight though.
Ditto, only substitute mw for OB. I am obese though, and there is concern about my weight to begin with. As always, it's good to bring up any weight concerns with your caregiver and discuss your daily/weekly nutrition to give them a full picture.

Similar to what others have said, I believe it mostly depends on your pre-pregnancy weight. For overweight women (i.e., me), the typical recommendation is no more than 15 lbs, but I recently read an article in Parenting (I think) that said the recommendations now are for overweight women to only gain 7-8 lbs during pregnancy. As long as your baby is hitting the size milestones when it should, though, I think you'll be fine.
I had no morning sickness, and gained 10 lbs 1st tri, but nothing since, and my Dr. wasn't concerned (I was average weight to begin with). He said I should expect to star gaining 1 lb a week (at my 19 week check up), so we will see when I go back at 23 weeks if I have gained anything and if he is concerned, but as long as LO is healthy I doubt it will be a problem.

okay im about avrage sized prepregnancy, i lost weight in the first tri and havent gained it back. i only ask because my midwife seemed a little concerned before she had to leave.
1 have gained 7lbs so far and my doc recommended .5 a lb a week. I am a healthy weight to start so it shouldn't be an issue. I eat when I am hungry... I couldn't imagin only gaining 8 lbs during pregnancy....
I would think that they would want you to gain at least back to your pre-pregnancy weight soon, but I don't know. My midwife said to call with any questions, so that's what I would recomend. I think if I was in your shoes I would be a little nervous about it, but don't stress too much. If you're eating healthy and getting plenty of protien and carbs you should be fine. Anyway, I would call and talk to her about it.
