Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Was this spit up or throw up? help

I gave DD formula for the first time in 4 weeks (she had it a few times before when she was first born) and after an hour she got rid of it. It flooded out of her like spit up does but the amount of it was like throw up...it had to be almost the whole bottles worth.

Does this classify as spit up or throw up? Any ideas as to why it happened? She barely ever spits up and has only thrown up once (it flew out of her so I knew it was throw up.) Just wondering if the formula I used doesnt agree with her and I should supplement with a diff kind. TIA

  • What kind are you using?  You normally use BM, yes?  It could just be too much on her little tummy.  BM is easily digestable but Formula can be a little difficult.

i usually use BM, ya. I used Similac the regular kind since once I used soy and it upset her.
  • It's spit up. Throw up comes flying out. If it dribbles or "burps" out, it's spit up, regardless of amount. Babies take a long time to digest their food, so spit up can happen for hours after a feeding. It probably doesn't mean that it doesn't agree with her or that you need to change formulas. And it's probably a lot less in the end then it seemed like.
