What is with some parents' name choices?!

A woman who posts on a local board that I peruse every now and then has her kids' names in her siggy:  Jet, Marvel, Cash, and Fox.  Why, why, why would you do that to your kids?  I didn't give my kids common or traditional names, but their names are actually names, not objects.  It's like they looked around and were like, "Hmmm, what should we name our kid?...Shelf? No....Carpet?  No.....Fox? Perfect!"  Sheesh.  Poor kids.

  • I have TWO nephew's named Jet...  I have no idea.

  • I have a friend named Penny, her sisters are Nickel and Dime
  • Since I was over here lurking... I just HAD to respond to this one.

My sister has a friend whose name and her brothers' names are random words as well.  I don't know the actual spellings because their parents altered them but there is:

Safe, Journey, Ransom, Nation and I think there is one more but I can't remember that one.

She also has a friend named Yellow!

  • My sister wants to have a boy and name him Cash....i think it is kind of cool. And DH used to work for Marvel comics....he probably would have to name a boy Marvel! lol

On a side note, I find it somewhat hypocrtical that someone would criticize the name choices of someone else, but won't share the names of their own children. It's as if you are concerned about being judged in the same way you judge others

  • DH was set on Cash ( he wanted to spell it different) if we had a boy. He wanted to do that because our 1st DD LOVES johnny cash. I thought it was a horrible name!

Then he came up with Jaxon Cash. Even worse!

  • Jet was the name of a teenage boy rebel character in Avatar: the Last Airbender, a popular Nickelodeon cartoon.  M. Night Shyamalan is making a film adaptation of it.  Maybe that's what brought that on.

  • I think there is a fine line... maybe Fox is a family name?

Our DS's middle name is Van, because it is a family name... not because we saw a van driving down the street and thought, "Hey! Great idea!"?

I've shared my kids' names in plenty of posts.  They're just not in my siggy.

That may be the case, but in a post specifically about names, where you even say that you gave your kids unique names, I would think you would have included them. I am curious to know what they are now. And i just don't recall them from previous posts.

  • I don't Cash is that bad although I probably wouldn't use it myself.  We gave DS a unique name that many people don't care for, to each their own I guess.

Are you a fan of the show 24?

We are but the name actually came from a brand of hockey equipment.  Most people think 24 though.

  • Bauer means Farmer in german.
