How do you feel about hiring someone to clean your house?

So my DH has recently been on this "kick" to hire someone to clean our house.  My 24 hour a day m/s has prevented me for the past few weeks to do really any cleaning besides some laundry and light picking up.  The DH is very lazy when it comes to cleaning our house aka does basically nothing which I am okay with because he does outside stuff.  But instead of doing it for a few weeks until I get over the m/s he wants to hire someone else to do it. I was just wondering if I am overreacting or DH is just being entirely to lazy.  Opinions welcome. Thanks ladies!

  • Yeah, I took my DH up on this offer.  Best decision ever.
  • My DH is the opposite, he's trying to quit smoking and in order to keep his mind off it he cleans compulsively. Sadly I would rather he just relax a bit because it's making me feel like I'm being crazy lazy about house work when I'm exhausted.

If you don't normally mind your husband being lazy when it comes to the house (some men really feel the house is the womans domain) and you can afford a maid for a while go for it.

  • My DH and I have a deal, I cook, he cleans. If he didn't want to do the cleaning, I would totally hire someone. I wanted to do that anyway but he said he would rather.

  • I'd LOVE it!  I had hired a lady just before DH got laid off and then I had to call her and say never mind.
  • I would definitely hire someone to clean.  Not only will it be great now while you have m/s, but it would be wonderful after the baby comes.  Then you can spend time with your LO instead of cleaning or catch up on some of your sleep while LO naps instead of worrying about cleaning.  I wish my DH wanted to hire someone to clean our house!
  • I have always cleaned our house, DH takes care of other things - but, having said that, he is out of the country now (his job) and won't be back home until nearly delivery time - I intend to hire a cleaner to come as soon as I cannot handle it anymore.

  • i would love to hire someone to clean.  i actually was just looking into it and just having them come in once a week would save me alot of time and energy that i dont have.   i might just have to talk to DH about this.

  • DO IT.  You won't regret it!  My husband was raised in a barn and if we didn't have a housekeeper I would either be divorced or on the news.

  • Do it! That sounds awesome.

  • Not only would I do it if my husband offered, I'd send him a dozen roses for suggesting it.  :)

  • I've had a cleaning service come every other week for several years.  Love it!  It frees up a lot of my time to do other things that are more important to me than cleaning.  Also, they frankly do stuff that I just don't get to, like baseboards.  I use The Cleaning Authority and love their rotation-based cleaning system.  They divide the house up into 4 zones.  Each visit, 3 zones get a "basic" cleaning and 1 zone is "deep" cleaned.  They rotate through the zones so each is deep cleaned on a regular basis.
  • ours just started yesterday! i fought it for so long, and am now glad that i did it.

    This!?

  • I would totally have one come by if DH didn't keep going in and out of work (he's in construction). I say if he thinks it is a good idea, go for it!!!
  • If you can afford it then why not?

I would do it but my DH doesn't agree with it.  He does the cleaning for now.  I'm slowly starting to feel better though.

  • I say go for it ... if he'd rather spend the money to PAY someone to clean than to do it, go for it ... as ridiculous as it is ... I'm seriously considering the same thing ... honestly, it pisses me off to think about ... you're too trifling to clean up? It's ridiculous ... sorry ... clearly I have a few issues when it comes to the cleaning thing ...
  • No way, not if he's perfectly capable and isn't cleaning purely out of laziness.  I would never let him get away with that, it's unacceptable.  It would be different if he were doing tremendous amounts of overtime to prepare for baby or something, but laziness doesn't count.

I would rather hire someone to mow the lawn than do the housework.  At least then, he's taking responsibility for the household.  Indoor housework takes priority over outdoor housework.  If the grass gets a little long, so what?

Honestly, if he went through with getting someone to clean house just because he doesn't feel like it, then I'd tell him that we needed someone to clean house just because I don't feel like it.

  • It's one of the best things I've ever done.  We can barely keep the clutter down in our house.  It forces a decluttering every 2 weeks.  :)
  • I feel amazing about it when I walk through the door every 2 Thursdays and my house is clean. Honestly, I feel good about helping keep our wonderful housekeeper in business - she's such a doll and she does a great job. It's been a godsend especially while I've had bad m/s.

  • dang, if we could afford it, we'd have a cleaning lady - no doubt
  • After we moved to a new state and make less money there is no room in the budget. I miss my cleaning lady so much. It was like christmas every time i came home. DO IT!!!!
