Pregnant after 35

Wrist pain? Swollen?

Its sweltering hot here.  Going to be 100 until the end of next week.  Lately, I have been experiencing wrist pain and when I try to open and close my hands, it hurts.  I think its because I am swollen.  Anyone else have this?  What do you do to make it more comfortable?

Re: Wrist pain? Swollen?

  • So I googled it...I have carpal tunnel in both hands.  I am so miserable from it.  Cant sleep, bc I also have the shooting pain up one arm.  I think its time for this little girl to start making her exit.

I've had a hew bouts of carpel tunnel, but the main problem I'm having with my hands now is with my knuckles. They feel like they need to cracked, and it actually kind of hurts. I know all our joints are suppose to be messed up in preparation for birth, but I wasn't expecting this.
  • My DD#1 was a July baby so I was miserably swollen and retaining gallons of water I swear and I also suffered from tarpel tunnel too.  Just know that within 2wks. of having my little one it went away.  GL and hang in there!!

  • Ugh .. sorry - I read the original post and thought .. uh oh.. she's got pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome.

I had it with DD #1.   I didn't even know you could *get* pregnancy induced carpal tunnel... it's just the water retention, as the pp said, and it went away for me within a week and a half of birth.    I had to wear the wrist braces when i was sleeping, mine was so bad.    DH called me edward scissorhands.    i told him he's never getting any again.  (obviously, I can't keep my word, since DD #2 just arrived.... )

Sadly - I think other than watching salt in your diet (which I'm certain you're already doing... ) - you've just got to wait it out.  Feh!

Hang in there... it *does* end.. :)

  • My yoga instructor has us do this stretch for our wrists:

    - Kneel on the floor with your knees spread, sitting on your butt.  You can use pillows if it's uncomfortable.

    - Put your hands right between your knees, palms on the floor, wrists facing outward, arms straight.

    - Push back against the floor for 15 to 30 seconds.

    - Close your knees, put the tops of your hands on the floor next to and outside your knees, arms straight.  Get as much of the top of your hand on the floor as you can, if you wear a watch it should touch the floor.

    - Push against the floor, again for 15-30 seconds.

    - Shake out your hands.
