Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Don't you hate it when . . .

So I had a client that was leaving my office yesterday, suddenly glanced at my stomach, and said, "Oh, when are you due?"

Number 1 - This is an awful comment for any woman who is not (and has not been for a while) pregnant because it implies that you are just fat, or inadvertently wearing maternity clothes.  Or a combination of both.

Number 2 - Wow!  This is really so much more hurtful after going through an m/c . . .

I need to start losing weight.  As you can see, my weight loss ticker in my siggy has stalled a long time ago, and it's time for action.  For better luck when TTC, and to at least avoid hurtful comments.

  • Reading this make me feel like going to gym from now.  I am overweight and the few months I was pregnant didnt help the situation.  I hope no one ask me this question when I go back to work.  I still practically cry when I see pregnant woman.

  • That is AWFUL!

I had someone ask me that question when I was leaving my GYN office after I had just been diasgnosed with PCOS and Hypo. People have awesome timing...

  • Very rude.  It just seems like some people have absolutely no internal monologue.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that situation.

  • Sorry...my mom has always had this sort of problem with her weight and it makes me realize, you never ask a woman when she is due.  It is mortifying.  So sorry  :(
  • Ouch. I'm so sorry you heard that.

Some people have no tact. ((HUGS))

  • RUDE!  I don't know what is wrong with people.  I am so sorry someone said that to you.  You are completely right it's wrong no matter what, you never know what someones situation is.

I used to work at a bank and one of my coworkers asked a frequent customer when she was due(she had a swelled belly, but was older, late 40's, maybe early 50's) she answered, "oh I'm not pregnant, I've been going through chemo and it swells my belly"  I felt so awful for her.  How terrible that she is going through cancer treatments and then some idiot asks her if she is pregnant.  I learned that day NEVER to ask anyone if they are pregnant.

Lost two more babies in September 2009 at 7 wks 4 days. Had myomectomy surgery to remove a large fibroid in November 2009.
  • um, yeah, i hate that. i'm sorry that happened to you. maybe the client heard that you were pg at some point in time? IMHO, unless the person says they're pregnant, one should never ask when they're due!

  • Ahhhh shucks sorry, that sucks big time.  I looked at myself in the mirror today and thought the same thing.

  • Thanks guys.  People are just so strange - I am overweight but not really overweight.  I never really thought I looked pregnant when I was pregnant, for heavens sakes!
