GD- found a great case for insulin

I was in Babies R Us yesterday and found this little case that is meant for medicine bottles. ?You freeze the bag (ice pack built in) and just put the bottle inside, and toss it in your purse (or diaper bag, whatever.) ?I have been looking for SOMETHING to carry my insulin in, aside from a full lunch box with ice pack and found nothing in stores. ?Yes, I am cheap too and didn't wnat to spend $15 plus shipping on something either. ?So when I saw this case, lights went off in my head. ?It was $5!! It fit my 2 insulin bottles, alcohol swabs and the empty syringe. ?Plus it is bright red, so it stands out in your purse. ?LOVE IT! ?

I can't seem to find it online but they had it in the store, if you are looking for something like this.?

    Does insulin need to be refrigerated? I thought it was okay at room temp for 24 hours...

    I have heard different things from different people. ?Supposedly not keeping it refrigerated decreases the shelf-life of it. ?(I'm not sure how true that is though....) ?All I know is the nurse in my OB office told me to keep it cold, so I will do so. ?And even if it doesn't need to be kept cold, it definitely won't hurt!

    My dr said if it is left at room temperature it is only good for 30 days, but if it is refrigerated it is good until it expires.  HTH.

    I was told to leave it out for about 15 minutes before I am going to take it so it's not so cold, but honestly, I have injected it cold straight from the refrigerator and it feels fine. ?

    I take the pens (humolog and humalin- sp?) and I can keep a pen out for 28 days then I have to start a new one. They come in a pack of 5 so I keep one in my purse(humolog), one in my nightstand (humalin) and the rest in the refigerator.

    Cindy- I just read a post you wrote about your low bs. ?You said you are taking glyburide, not insulin. ?Not to get snarky or anything, but if you are not taking insulin, where are you getting your info from? Just wondering.....

    I read? I'm on the highest dose of glyburide and it's not working, the next step is insulin. I've been reading up on it. I wasn't flaming you, I was asking questions for my own knowledge. I didn't know insulin had to be refrigerated, I wasn't sure if it varied by type or whatever. I had read that it hurts more to inject it cold, so I was asking if that was true- I'll keep it in the fridge, but if it hurts more cold then I would need to take it out in advance.
