protien making me gag ...help

so for some reason this important nutrient is the one that my body would like me not to have - its my only food aversion - esepcially with red meat, even more chopped red meat (hamburgers, meatballs).  Any suggestions of foods where I can supplement protein (without soy - I an trying to stay away from all soy in general and with this pregnancy) TIA!

  • I have a protein aversion too! except mine is with chicken!!  Last pregnancy I HATED HATED HATED chicken, and my love for chicken never came back.  Now it's getting worse again!

how about other types of beans? and hummus? milk?

  • Mix black beans or garbanzo beans into your salads.  Eat almonds as snacks.  Try different nut butters (macadamia, walnut, etc.) on crackers.  Mix quinoa with corn for a whole protein, make a kind of pilaf or salad out of it.  Put walnuts or almonds in your oatmeal in the morning.
  • I forgot eggs and lentils!  And there's protein in a lot of dairy products, so if you are getting your daily calcium from foods, that should help, as well as protein-fortified pastas and breads you can find.  They even make quinoa pasta.
  • Make a fruit smoothie!

You can go to GNC or a Sams/Costco/BJs and pick up a big container of powdered protein and just add it to your smoothie ... you won't even taste it. And if you need a little more in there you can add some peanut butter.

     My favorite smoothie:

plain dried oatmeal, protein, banana, and an assortment of frozen fruit.

  • With first PG, I ended up really NOT liking red meat.  Elk aversion happened first, followed by beef.  The flavor was just overpowering to me.  We ate lots of chicken and turkey while I was PG!

Rice and beans also make a complete protein [all essential amino acids involved].
