s/o Garnet's gorgeous dye job, have you used box color?

I've used box color lots of times and the results vary. Garnet, you're inspiring me to give it a shot again.

Has anyone used box color to go lighter???

  • yes, I have.

I find, however, that I like using box color to go darker OR to go funky (ie, red) much better. I think box highlights work fantastic, and I've gone very blond with highlights before.

  • Yup, I used to use the Nice & Easy platinum blonde to lighten my hair before dying it ridiculous colors.  Worked like a charm.

  • I have- it's much easier to go darker than lighter, IMO.  To go lighter is a lot more chemicals and all that, and it depends on what color your hair is right now.  I've tried it and sometimes it turned gray, sometimes it turned orange... I would go to a professional to go lighter.
  • I have, but I will only use certain types of box...never Nice 'N Easy...color's too cheap....I love Garnier's colors: the 100% color they have and the other line in the green boxes...that color smells great...I do usually go for 2 boxes though for all over color...
  • I loooove the box that has color and highlights in one. ?I am drawing a blank on the name since I haven't done an application since I got pg, but it's in a burgundy box and they have lots of really nice natural colors. ?The highlights are formulated to compliment the base color and they come out looking fabulous. ?You might try that - get a base color that's just a little lighter than your natural color and then do tons of highlights. ?However, if you're trying to go platinum blonde or something more drastic, I would go to a pro.?

    This.

I haven't dyed my hair in years--but this was my experience when I did. I'm thinking of trying again. Just for kicks.
