Baby Names

let's talk wildest fantasies...

lol. just in terms of names...

what's the one name, boy or girl, that you absolutely love but you can't give your child?

could be because your DH hates it, or you know someone else with the name, or you just too afraid people wouldn't "get it".

In Mich?!  OMG.....We live real close to there and I'm cracking up! :)

  • Leah- DH's cousins' psycho ex-wife who recently became a lesbian. I love this name and am so mad that I cannot use it!

Eric- I've always loved this name, but DH hates it.?

  • I love the name Hunter, but DH says its a dog name.Whatever that means because our dogs have human names.
  • Maverick...I love this name for a boy but my husband had a laughing fit when I mentioned it...then he flat out said "NO".
  • I love Rex for a boy's middle name, but my DH says it sounds like a "feminine cowboy's" name.  Those are his words LOL... I'm hoping he gives in after joining me in the delivery room.

  • Augustine for a boy - Gus for short. It would be after St. Augustine, an intellectual giant in Catholic history.

Too bad it's a little girly for my tastes in the real world :)

  • I really wanted to name my DS Meyer.  DH would have gone along with it if I insisted, but I decided it was too "out there" to really push for it.
  • I would name my daughter Brighton.  I fell in love with the town when I studied abroad.  It will never happen tough.

  • I love the name Brynn for a girl but my last name starts with Br so it sounds horrible together.

And when I was in high school I met a guy names Chance. He was just the epitome of cool and since that day I always wanted a Chance... H is not having any of it.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • Mellissande. I love it, but I'd condemn a little girl to a lifetime of "how do you pronounce that?"
  • Austin. My husband thinks naming naming a child after a city is "redneck."

I'll *never* tell him that our 1st name choice for a boy is actually a little East Texas town that my g-gparents lived in when they first came to Texas. Stick out tongue

And for a girl: Isabelle. He said the name reminds him of one of my bsc ex-friends who named her dog that.

It isn't even that wild.  But I like Liv for a girl.  Like that or short for Olivia.  DH absolutely hates it.
  • Angelina Jolie has wicked cutting edge boy names. Obviously I wouldn't use them because they sound too much like "her"
  • Everett. Our next door neighbor's son has that name and we never even met them until after we had that name picked out and I told the kid's dad I loved that name and his response was, "Oh, you aren't planning on using it are you?!"
  • For a girl I really like the name "Ever"  - I just think it's unique and kinda cool - and I want to say I liked it long before Mila Jojovich had her daughter.  I also like the name Ariana for a girl - such a beautiful meaning :)  DH isn't fond of either at all so I'm out of luck in that area!

For boys - I like old school "Samuel".   My DH hates it though. He is stuck on Jake which sounds just terrible with our last name (unfortunate b/c I'd actually go for it otherwise)

Anyway, we're having a girl and still have not finalized our name choice!

  • Ulysses.

  • I absolutely love the name Amelie, which is unfortunate because it so doesn't go with our last name.

  • I love the name Faith (or Fe in spanish) and Lara for girls .. DH would never accept them.

I also love Maya, and I did everything that I could but DH didn't like it.

For boys I've would like italian names: Luca, Santo, Fabio

  • I LOVE the name Ciaran for a boy.  But I know in school he would be called Karen and have a life time of correcting people on the spelling and pronounciation of his name.

  • I wanted the middle name for our Daughter to be Josette or Josephine (after my grandfather) - but DH vetoed both.  We are just going with the middle name "Jo".

You think Gus sounds too girly?  I don't.  To each their own, I suppose.  I know an Augustine/Gus.  He's about 5 years old and is all boy.  :)

  • I worked with a girl named Mischancy for a while.  She told me that her parents just made it up, but I just loved how it sounded.  My DH would never go for that.

  • I *love* Kyle for a girl, but while at first he said he liked it DH has now decided he hates it. BOOO!

  • I actually adore both of my girls' names, but one name I really loved was Hadley & DH would have none of it.  Also Grady for a boy, but since we won't be having any of those, we're out of luck with that!

i like kyle for a girl too!  i think i may even like it more for a girl than a boy.

  • There was a female character named Fairlight on a show I used to watch. I always thought it was pretty, but it's a little too "out there" for me to actually use. I also like Felicity but wouldn't use it either.

  • Boy- Tristan (after Legends of the Fall)

    Girl- Lorelei (after Gilmore Girls)

    Dh vetoed both

  • I unreasonably love the names Henrietta and Marjorie. Unfortunately, everyone would hear my DD's names and assume they wore pastel, elastic waits pants and had a cotton-ball perm and a hearing-aid.

  • I've always wanted to use the name Payson Young, but DH would never go for it.... here's where I saw it.

DH and I were driving from Pheonix, AZ to the Grand Canyon and I was bored so I started to read the map and all the different town names.  There was a town named Young which is my maiden name so I got all excited.  Directly west of this town was another town named Payson so on the map Payson and Young were right next to each other and I liked the way it looked.

DH has veto'd it a million and a half times though.

  • Tabitha and Griffin, H hates them both. ?:O( ?
  • I have always loved the names Ava and Addison. Unfortunately, our last name has a similar sound and they just don't go well together. So, they are officially off our list.

  • A boys name : Andreas (Said like Andre -s) Its German as is our heritage and I love it but he would surely be called Andrea or something like that.?DH really wanted to use Nolan but I have a cousin with that name, which wouldn't normally affect our decision except that they share the same last name we do. So that was out.

As for girl names I like Jane as a middle name but my DH says no because its my best friends name (though she always goes by her middle name) and was a name of one of Henry the 8th's wives (I'm obsessed with Tudor history). Besides that I like 'boys' names for girls and DH hates that trend.

  • harry, but our last name rhymes with harry, and also is a famous person's name. boo hiss.

  • I would reeeeally have loved Alaina Grace (instead of Alaina Skye) but in the end getting the name Alaina was all that was important to me so I gave in and I was good with it a looong time ago :) I actually had never seen the name Alaina in any book nor had I known one before and I dreamt her name one night, woke up on that Mother's Day and just had to get DH to love it.

  • for a boy: Blaze

for a girl: Angie (you know, like the Rolling Stone song)

  • Girl: Shenandoah - means "daughter of the stars" nn: Shenan

Boy: Ashley - this is just a good old south name!

    MKF

  • If I ever have a little girl I want her middle name to be Tuesday.....

would definetly have to convince DH!!
