For those of you who have heard the HB at the doctor's office -- I know the point at which the HB can be heard is different for every woman, but at what point is hearing the HB probable?
I have a doctor's appointment scheduled in a couple of weeks (I'll be almost 12 weeks at that point), and when I asked if the doctor would be able to use the doppler, he said rather sternly that I'd hear the HB at 12 weeks only if I'm "very, very lucky," and that 14 weeks is considered the more likely point.
That just didn't seem to match up with what I've read here and elsewhere (for some reason, I thought 12 weeks was the likely point), so I was curious to see what you guys thought.
(I'm a relatively thin person, which I've heard might help, so I don't think the doctor was saying that weight would be an issue.)
In any case, thanks for your thoughts!
Re: doppler question
Your doc is right...14 weeks is when it's probable that you will hear the h/b. In saying that, it's very common to hear it earlier than that. I heard it at 10 weeks using my home doppler! Your doctor is likely just being cautious...if he told you that you would hear it at 12 weeks and then you didn't, you would probably be really freaked out.
I would say you will probably hear a little h/b, but certainly not to panic if you don't. GL!
Your doctor is right. They couldn't hear it for me at 10 weeks. At my next appt at 14 weeks they could. I think it's hit or miss anything prior to about 13 weeks. Don't freak out if they cannot hear it yet. I know easier said then done :-)
