xp: Baby Furniture: How early is too early?

DH and I went to a local baby store today to look at baby furniture. I have heard so many people say it takes 12-18 weeks for funiture to come in, so I figured we should start early. Well we found a set we like and they have it in stock.  Is it crazy to buy it now?  DH feels like we should wait...I kinda dont see the point in waiting.

What do you ladies think-- is 16 weeks too early?

Re: xp: Baby Furniture: How early is too early?

  • Absolutely not! Why wait 'till the last couple months to buy and do everything? We plan on getting our nursery started in a few weeks. (new flooring, windows, crown molding) and we'll wait for the furniture, paint, decor when we find out the sex.

  • We already have all of our baby furniture set up in the baby room. It was given to us, but I do think we would be ordering it about now if we didn't have it yet. You never know if you'll be put on bedrest or have a preemie, so I think it's best to be prepared as early as possible.
  • We bought our crib and drawers when I was only 14 weeks!  They were a great price and I wasn't passing it up.  Very glad I did as now I only have to get a bookshelf and a glider :)

No way! We picked ours out today, and we are going to place the order right after my 16 week dr. appointment. I have heard horror stories about the brand we want (Munire) taking forever to come in, even though the lady in the store swore up and down it would be in in 8-10 weeks. I don't want to chance it.
  • Buy it!  I already bought mine and have it all set up!  I'm glad I did though, because if you go to put it together and something is damaged it could take a while to get a replacement sent.

  • I don't think it is too early.  My husband and I are hoping to buy our furniture within the next few weeks even though we already have an Arms Reach co-sleeper for the first few months.  I want to buy the nursery furniture so I can put everything together and start decorating the rest of the room.
  • Just bought our bassinet today. And saw this great wood high chair for 10 bucks at a yard sale..Couldn't pass it up. But we are 22 wks and that is all the furniture we have so far.  Not rushing to much because of the space and we will be moving into a bigger house within the next 6 months.

  • We bought our nursery furniture around 19 weeks so I dont' think 16 weeks is really all that different. If you aren't going with a specific set for a specific gender there really is no need to wait until after 20 weeks.  If there is a chance it could go on sale I would wait but if not I would go ahead and buy it.

  • I didn't feel comfortable buying until after the big ultrasound, but then we we went right out and ordered ours :)  Have fun!
***************************** Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.
  • We just ordered our furniture this week.  I've had it picked out for awhile but something was stopping me from ordering it.  That being said, we've had our stroller and carseat since I was about 16 weeks.
