Baby Showers

Shower at 36 wks too late?

I need input, because I am hormonal today and can't seem to be a fair judge of things.

Do you think 36weeks is too late in a pregnancy to have a shower?

  • Definitely not too late. Are you really just worried about it being later than you'd like? Do you want to do it earlier but it's not working out for some reason?

(I really wanted my shower to occur between 30-36 weeks and felt the closer to 30 weeks, the better.)

  • I don't think so, I'm having one at 38 weeks.  Hopefully it won't turn into a "Meet the Baby" party.

My SIL is planning it, and when she asked me if she could (back when I got my BFP), she mentioned that I should try to have it before 7-8 months, because when she had her twins she was miserable after that point and didn't enjoy her shower. She wanted me to enjoy mine.  But she called tonight and told me the dates she has in mind, and it is 4 weeks before my due date.  I just thought that was odd.

Then I read all the forums and most ladies are having theirs between 28-34 weeks.  I guess I was hoping to be around 30 weeks.  I am just afraid 36 weeks is kinda late.  But I am keeping my mouth shut, because I just feel blessed that she is throwing a shower for me and the baby.

  • With our first daughter I was about 36-37 weeks and with this baby it is going to be the same. I think it is fine and I think it makes the later weeks go by a bit more because you're busy unpacking the goodies and getting ready for baby!
  • I had mine at 31 weeks and really glad I did as I had her at 36 weeks.  Good luck!
  • I will be 36 weeks at my shower. At first I was a little worried just thinking it was too close to my due date. I am now 33 weeks so as it's gets closer I am less concerned. For one, I am not as big and miserable (yet) as I thought I would be at 36 weeks!!

Honestly, if I had it my way I would have like to have it a couple weeks earlier than 36 weeks!!

If its the only time thats convenient, it may not be to big of a deal!!

  • If it makes you feel better, I am having one at 38 weeks.

It's stressing me out, but I am going to smile and nod. No other date would work for the hostess.

Oh, did I mention that my due date is probably being moved up. I should probably talk to the hostess... crap.

This just happened to my cousin. Well close enough, she had her shower on Saturday and went into labor and had the baby on Sunday!

  • I've known people to even wait for the baby shower til after the birth of their child...only because they didn't know what the sex of the baby was.  (They liked to keep it a secret. *giggles*)  I don't think it's too late.  Enjoy! :D
  • I'm having my shower today so almost 36 weeks and I feel okay physically for it. Luckily it's only 1 1/2 hours drive so that won't be bad either. I was stressing earlier in the pregnancy that it would be too late but right now it seems perfect. I'm rocking a nice big bump and will get all the stuff (hopefully :)) I need to finish the nursery and can spend next week shopping for whatever I don't get so I'll be perfectly ready by the time I hit full term.

  • Mine is also when I will be 36 weeks.  I personally think I would rather have it a couple of weeks earlier, but don't have a say!!  Zip it!  Just going to go with the flow...

  • I'll be 36 weeks too... that's as late as I'd want to do it, but I feel fine with the scheduling.
  • I will be 36 weeks for both my showers.  I really wish they could have been earlier, but that's just the way it worked out for the hosts.  I'm sure it'll be fine.  I would go for it if I were you, unless you think you'll be horribly uncomfortable.  I haven't had any swelling or major problems, so I'm guessing that won't change a lot in just a few weeks.
  • I am due Jan 27th, so I am actually hoping my friend (who straight off the bat told me she wants to throw me a shower) will have mine in January, putting me at 36+weeks.

My thoughts are that there is Thanksgiving in Nov, then of course all the Christmas parties and festivities in Dec, I feel that from other pg women I've been around, the last 4wks or so drag, so to lead up to a 36+wk shower will give me something to look forward too.  Plus, it'll give me time to save some more cash to purchase whatever the remaining items that we'll still need to purchase in the following weeks that will drag leading up to the birth.

So, in answer to your question, No, I don't think 36 wks is too late.. go with it and enjoy the pampering... cause you deserve it!

  • Mine will be at 35 weeks, I didnt really want it that late either, but its the only day that works... so oh well. Smile
