Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Those planning on having another (or have more than 1)...

Are you planning on keeping all the baby clothes you have now, even though there is a chance you could have the opposite sex?  DD is starting to outgrow some of her clothes and we are planning on having another baby (hoping for a boy) in about 3 years, but I can't decide to keep her clothes just in case.  WDYT?

Re: Those planning on having another (or have more than 1)...

  • Absolutely!!  I am super bummed DD will grow out of some of these outfits cause I love them all.  Plus they are all in such good condition cause she can only wear them for a couple of months.

  • We're putting clothes into a storage box as she grows out of them (and they get washed before going into the box) just in case we have another girl.

Even if we have a boy next time, we'll have plenty of white onzie undershirts.

  • I kept all of my sons and will keep all of my daughters.  We will have one more baby in a few years and then it won't matter what I have because I will have clothes for either sex.
  • Yes.  Many of DD's clothes were my nieces, and my sister generously passed them on to us in huge Rubbermaid bins marked 0-6, 6-12, 12-24 months.  As DD has been growing out of her newborn and 0-3 month clothes, I have been putting them back in the respective bin.  I'm destined to have another daughter, so I might as well hold on to the clothes until then.

  • I am currently going through the same thing -- we just gave away some of L's onesies and sleepers to one of FI's friends and my heart was hurting doing it.. I guess I'm just hoping that the stars align and cooperate for #2 to be a boy Stick out tongue

  • We're planning on keeping his clothes until we're done having kids.
  • I've kept all of Hannah's clothes (minus ones that were super stained).  We are pg with #2 and If we have a girl I will certianly use what we have from her, and if we have a boy I will probably keep what I have still since we may or may not go for #3.  I have them all stored in plastic bins labeled with the sizes.

  • Well, since we're already not avoiding (will do an FET in jan if nothing happens) we're keeping everything for now. If we were waiting 3 years or so, I think I'd probably get rid of it. I hate saving things we're not going to use.
  • Yep i kept them all.  Since I ended up with a boy I've passed them on to friends and my niece, but I did keep most of them until we knew what we were having for #2.

  • I saved my stuff after my first.  Came in handy when I had a second girl that was also born in the summer.  After my second I did not keep them.  There was a girl I worked with who was pregnant and the dad left and refused to help with anything...and she had to move out of their apartment so she was in a real tight spot.  Since she was having a girl I gave her all that I could.  We knew we wanted another baby but had no clue when so for me it was only right to give it to someone who was very much in need of it at the time.
  • Definitely! And I'm keeping all my maternity too.  I figure that if I have a girl next, I can hand down the clothes to my SIL or anyone else who's having a boy.  Half of the clothes I have now are hand me downs from my SIL and my BFF.
  • We are planning to stop at one.  (Well, at the moment that's the plan) But I'm keeping all of his clothes and stuff so I can pass them along to friends or family.

Whew!  That makes me feel better to know that I won't be the only one keeping all of them just in case!  Now I can tell DH that I am in fact not the only one who does this!

  • I even got to the point where I bought 'boy' clothes like jeans for my DD since that way either could wear them, and just have tops that are more 'girly'. I figure eventually DS will grow into everything, and if we have #3, we'll be set either way.

  • I don't have a lot of storage space so I am only saving my favorite outfits of DS's.  Most of his other clothes I have donated to a local women's and children's shelter or given to friends that are having a baby boy in a few months.  If we have another boy then he can wear the few outfits I saved, otherwise I will keep them to show DS what he wore when he was a baby.
  • Yes. We are keeping all of LOs clothes. We will donate them after our next (and final) child.

  • We are keeping everything.  If our next one is a girl she can wear all the yellow and green outfits.

  • We kept all DS's clothes in case DD was a boy...but obviously she wasn't. We are still going to hang onto them as my brother and DH's brother will be getting marreid soon- just in case they want anything they get first dibs. Otherwise we will sell it. Our kids are 2.5 years apart.

  • we saved everything of DS1's knowing we wanted a 2nd in the next couple years. (we got 2nd and 3rd!).  I love pulling out the clothes that DS1 wore and getting to use them again.  Baby styles don't change much in a couple years- there's no reason not to keep clothing if you have somewhere to store them.
  • We're keeping everything.
  • Yes.  And even if the next one is a girl, I'm still going to use the clothes I have now on her. I've never been a big fan of all the pink, flowers, hearts and rainbows.

I have them in plastic storage bins (0-3, 3-6, etc.) If DC #2 is a boy, he'll be able to wear some of them still and we'll donate the rest and he might just have some pink sleepers and blankets...
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
