When did your child stop wearing a bib?

I honestly can't remember when E stopped, but it was definitely not this early. A turns two next month and throws a full on hissy fit if I try to put one on him. (Probably because he sees his brother without one?) He screams. He cries. He takes it off, even if I try repeatedly to put it back on. I've tried both velcro and over the head. Eventually, I give up.

I would say it's no big deal but he makes an unbelievable mess without one. He really really needs one.

Is there a compromise? How thehell does Kate Gosselin get her five year olds to wear them? Stick out tongue

  • DS hasn't worn one since he was around 9 months. He'd strangle himself with them trying to get them off, so we ditched them.

DD wore them a long time, probably until she was 3.

  • Oh god. I think that DS has worn a bib maybe 30 times in his entire life and hasn't worn one for at least 4 months. DD stopped at maybe 10mths-1 year old. I have fairly neat eaters and when on the rare occasion we eat something like spaghetti, the shirts come off Wink

  • DS also refused long before DD did. ?I bet she was 2.5 and DS hasn't wore one for 6 months...

  • DS went through a phase of not wanting to wear one, but now he will wear one again (he is almost 2.5).  When he went through his bib-free phase I just took off his shirt when he ate at home.

  • I stopped putting them on her pretty early - around 13 or 14mo?

But then she went to a new daycare and I guess all the cool kids were wearing them... and at 18mo she started throwing a fit if she didn't have one!

But she's off that kick and hasn't asked for one in a long time.

She's actually pretty neat and hates to have stuff on her hands and always wants a napkin (and someone to help her use it if she's really messy).

I'd rather just deal with the food stains than the battle.

LOL. I guess that's what it comes down to. He's ruining shirts left and right...

DS never fought wearing a bib.  In fact he's 3.5 & we're trying to get him to stop wearing one, but he insists.  We've got him to a point of only wearing it when he eats soup.  DD is 18 months & she fights the bib most times, but I take her food away until she put the bib on.
  • Ethan was wearing a bib only when he ate soups up until he was 3 y.o. I think.....

J already throws a fit every time I put a bib on him, he's not even 15 months old....

  • DD will be 3 years old next month and still wears a bib. Her clothes are too nice to get spaghetti sauce and stains on them. My MIL makes her bibs with a washrag and sews fabric to the top and uses a big (fashionable button like a watermelon button, strawberry button etc). DD doesn't like to get messy so she insists wearing one when eating yogurt, fruit cups and sauces things.

Sigh. How do I get toddlers who eat soup? Surprise

Logan is still wearing these bibs at every meal.  It's a must.  Her clothes would be ruined.  Thankfully, she hasn't protested yet!

  • DD would always pull them off (started around 10 months), so I gave up the fight around 12 months & dealt with the stains later.

DS is in daycare and they stop putting them on in the toddler room which is 18months-3 y.o.  DS wouldn't put one on at home once he started in the toddler room.

OXYclean. It's a life saver, and I should have bought some stock in it!
