Job with in house daycare?

I'm just wondering if these really exist? If you got a job at a Y or gym, do they let you put the kids in their daycare at a low cost? Do other companies have daycare? Just curious. Thanks

Re: Job with in house daycare?

  • My company is trying to start one...I work for an IT co. They are trying to see if they can get a license to open one on site or nearby for our company since we have so many young people with families that work here and childcare is hard to get in our town...long wait lists, etc.

I suggested it...apparently I have more power than I think around here  Stick out tongue

ETA: we'd have to pay for it still, it wouldn't be free, but hopefully cheaper.

    Madhatter- hope it works out!

  • We have one.  (I work at a law firm.)  It is such a great thing to have; it's one of the best benefits of my job.  The firm subsidizes the tuition, so it's not expensive at all, and it's high quality care.  (It's a Bright Horizons center.)  The employees love it, and know the kids are in good hands, and (I believe) the firm gets a tax break.  Works all around!

It took a loooong time from the first proposal to actual implementation, but I am so glad they worked it out.

  • I work for a hospital, and we have in-house daycare.  It is high quality care at a very reasonable cost.  I love knowing that I can always check-in on my son.  I think it a very good employee retention tool.  I would be hesitant to every leave my employer, because I wouldn't want to move my son out of this daycare.
  • My company has one.  I work in healthcare.   Like a previous poster, it's a Bright Horizons center.  It's about three blocks from my office.   My company offers some scholarships, but otherwise does not subsidize the cost.  There's a long waitlist because it's a small center (about 150 kids).  DD and I love it.

  • We have one.  It's a Bright Horizons center, as well. It's subsidized by my employer, but it's still not cheap.  I know it costs my company a lot of money to maintain - we own the facility and subsidize the teachers' pay so they are paid more than at most centers.  I love it and it's one of the reasons that I'm so happy with my work situation.
  • I work at a university and there is a daycare on campus.
  • I work at a very large oil company. There is a daycare on campus that is subsidized for employees - but I'm a contractor so I don't get the discount. It's actually supposed to be a fabulous daycare and is open to the community if there are spaces available - it's $1400/mo for a newborn if you're not an employee which is why my kid does not go there! It's half that for employees.

  • Oh, and if you work at the gym daycare you can take your kid with you, but only while you're there. This is what DH's ex did with their son.

  • My company has one and it is also Bright Horizons, but it is not subsidized at all.  In fact, it is the most expensive daycare around!  It would have been slightly more than $2700/mo to have both my kids there, so I said no.  It does still have a waiting list that is insanely long though.
