Pregnant after a Loss

Am I crazy? I might be switching career paths right now.

Don't get me wrong, I love my job (I teach elementary school), but there was a position that opened up in a neighboring school district that I had heard about: Program manager for the English as a second language program for the entire school district. I always look for new opportunities to advance in my field, so I applied for it online (just to see what happened), and I got called for an interview (I hadn't even had a chance to submit my resume yet!) I have an interview on Thursday. They want whoever they hire to start right away, but I know they can't hold the fact that I am pregnant against me, and they would have to offer me maternity leave. If they do offer me the job, and it is a great offer, I want to take it. I am wondering how I am going to manage a new baby and a new career all at once!

Anyone been in this situation or know of someone in this situation?

  • I'm a teacher too and I say go for it! If you were looking and applied and got the interview, it sounds like things are falling into place. I have been teaching for 10 years and changed jobs within education a few times. 4th grade regular ed, then 6 years of special ed and now 1st grade. It's good to change it up. I say just be honest with the people interviewing you and see what happens. You have to think many pg women have gone through this before and it's possible. If they really want you for the job, they will make it work for you. Good luck!

  • I have not been in the situation but it sounds like a great opportunity. If u are comfortable with it, then go for it. You also dont want to regret not taking a position.
  • You are so close to delivery that I don't see an issue. By the time you are ready to go back to work all the paperwork and red tape will be done. Go for it. I am in the same situation and feeling a little guilty if I take a new job and they don't know I am KU. I don't want to say anything at this point - especially with my history. But the new opportunity will be so great for our family. I just don't see how I can't do it. Go for it if you think it will benefit you and your familiy's future!
