toddler rate for cruise?

Does anyone know the average rate for a toddler on a cruise ship? I'm looking at some reservations now and for this particular ship it says there are no "toddler rates" but that an additional passenger in your same room is about 2/3 the cost of full price. Can anyone share their experience? (PS we don't know which cruiseline we're going with yet- it's all open.)

Re: toddler rate for cruise?

  • We had to pay the "additional passenger" rate for him of 2/3.  Seems insane for a toddler, but that's how they get you!  I think we were on Royal Caribean.

  • some cruiselines are 100%.
  • With most cruise lines you will pay the 3 passenger rate and not a childrens or toddler rate. Check out Norwegian Cruise line and Carnival I believe they have a childrens rate.

  • We had to pay 3rd passenger rate for our dd when she was 7mths old. It worked out to be $1000, which I thought was crazy. I do want to warn you that they would not allow children in any of the pools with swim diapers. This was Princess cruiseline. It was very disappointing to pay so much for her and she was not allowed to use any of their services. The children's program starts at age 2.
  • Ditto PP- DS couldn't go in the pools.  On the larger ships, they have a kiddie pool, though.

  • It is either 100% or the additional person rate from what I have seen also.  Disney lets them go free, but there overall rates are higher.  Actually there are only a few ships 6, I think, that have swim diaper pools.  I am hoping maybe DD will be potty trained by the time we go, but I have heard the suggestion of bringing a small inflatable pool to use deck side.
  • We are cruising with DD on the Carnival Miracle in September. We paid 1/2 the adult rate for her. They have a kiddie pool where swim diapers are allowed. I would say Carnival is your best bet overall for kids...a lot of the other cruise lines cater to an older crowd and aren't as accomodating to kids...except Disney of course but their prices are outrageous.
