So my 4th of July SUCKED! Saturday night about 6:30pm I started throwing up every 20-30 minutes, and my stomach was cramping like crazy. It was worse than I remember labor pains being. I didn't have a fever or any other symptoms, so I thought I had food posioning. I started getting paranoid that I had listeria from the ham sandwich I had earlier (I know...). We called the doctor's office, and the nurse hotline said to go to the ER just in case.
By the time I got through triage, I was very dehydrated and couldn't keep anything down, so they sent me to the L&D wing to monitor the baby and hooked me up to IV fluids. I kept throwing up, and they offered me drugs to stop the nausea, but no one really seemed concerned about WHY I was throwing up so much. They were like, "Oh, it's probably because you're dehydrated," or "Well, you're pregnant, so it's probably hormones." Seriously?! I've had two pregnancies, I know morning sickness, and this is NOT it. WTF?
I finally took the nausea drugs and quit throwing up. They let me go home about 1am. I felt better yesterday, although I was still cramping all day long. I feel a lot better this morning, though. No one ever did tell me why I might have suddenly started throwing my guts up though. (Does anyone else not think that's a little odd?)
Re: My 4th of July trip to L&D
It sounds just like what I had when I was pregnant w/ DS. I was 31 weeks and after throwing up in a bucket while sitting on a toilet for a full 10 hours we called the Dr and were told if I had thrown up more than 5x to go to the ER.
No one could tell me why; I had no fever or other signs; just GI ickiness. After Immodium; nausea meds and 3 litres of fluids I was able to pee and go home.
I hope you feel better soon!
