If you have chosen your Pediatrician...

What was the deciding factor? Did you interview pediatricians? or go by word of mouth? I am just begining my search and any help is appreciated! TIA

Re: If you have chosen your Pediatrician...

  • I chose mine based on a recommendation from a local friend who feels the same as I do about vaccines, medicine, and stuff like that.  There aren't many pediatricians who won't give parents crap about delaying around here so it made the choice pretty easy.  My friend has been so happy with this doctor and they are really close so tht works for me!

  • I went by word of mouth. ?Several friends recommended an office, and it is convenient to both work and home, so that made the decision pretty easy. ?And if we decide that we really dislike something about this office, we will switch!

  • I am a teacher, so I asked the parents in my class for recommendations. ?As it turns out, more than half of my class goes to the same practice. ?So, we attended an Open House at the practice and met a few of the doctors. ?We really liked it and decided to go with them. ?We didn't do any individual interviews, but we are planning on using the doctor who was recommended most by the parents in my class.?

  • I  went by word of mouth. The one that was the most strongly recommended was available - to the surprise of the office.

My office is pretty small so I know their opinions and beliefs and felt comfortable going on just recommendations.

  • We went by word of mouth.  I had multiple co-workers recommend our pediatrician so I went with the most recommendations and called the office.
  • She's the only game in town, though we've always heard good things.

  • We went off of recommendations from close family friends.

  • I am using the same one that my DH and BIL had when they were young. She was super young with them and so she has been in the field for a long time but isn't super old. The family loved her so I decided to not interview any others. I have been warned though that she is super strict and traditional which scares me a bit but everyone says they love her.

So I guess I went by word of mouth.

  • I went by word of mouth recommendations from family/friends. I met with the one pediatrician everyone raved about and if things didn't go well with that meeting, we would have "interviewed" someone else, but there was no need.
  • My Dr. said that all of the ones in the place I go to are great. So I just wrote the names down of the 3 that are accepting new patients. I've seen one of them before, so I put her at the top of my list but I'm open to any of them.

  • Word of mouth. ?And the office is in the same building where my OB is which is less than a mile down the road, and connected to the hospital. ?For whatever reason, this is probably been the thing I've been most lax about during this pregnancy. ?I figure if I can't stand the practice, I'll look elsewhere. ?But I don't think it will be a big deal.

  • I interviewed two.  I heard about both of them by word of mouth.  Both of them answered our medical/professional questions similarly - we just "clicked" more with the one we decided on.  And she has a 9 month old - we thought that would be nice as far as "what did you just do for your child" questions go.
  • We got a referral from my OB and from a friend that used to work at the hospital I am delivering at. The first we interviewed we liked. DH went with me and we liked the fact he works with his father. He is open on Saturdays, near the hospital and our house, gave us his cel phone. DH liked his overall demeanor as well.
  • Thanks so much ladies!!
  • I got recommendations from friends which helped a lot. I interviewed and went with the one that I felt the most comfortable with in the interview. Plus knowing friends who I trust go to this practice helped a ton in my decision.
  • Word of mouth to start.  And then had a consultation.  Also finding daycare helped us figure out which side of town we would be on.  (If she was going to daycare near DH, our pedi would have been near him and vice versa).  Good luck!
  • I got a recommendation from a woman I work with who is VERY particular- I figured if he was good enough for her, he'd be good enough for us. BUT, I did interview the Dr.- and he was great. I wished he was my doctor, so I knew it was a good fit!

     This!!

  • Whether or not the office is willing to work with an alternate vaccine schedule was an important deciding factor for us, as well as their hours (wanted an office with evening hours at least once a week), and if they have a seperate well/sick child waiting area. I asked for recommendations on my local board and then called those that people recommended. I have not met any of the doctors from the practice but one will come see DS at the hospital.
