Tanning beds and TTC

I have not tanned for years! I am very pale now and I would like to get some color before the weddings I am in (August). I know tanning beds are terrible for you, and I am paranoid about wrinkles, but I just look awful. I put on way too much weight and I am so pale.

I started to workout again last week and I want to tan too.  Did your RE tell you not to tan while TTC.

Re: Tanning beds and TTC

  • the nurses at my RE told me to stay away from anything that would raise my body temperature...    saunas, hot tubs, etc.    i would think tanning beds would fall into that category.       but i also only got that advice for the time AFTER O/the IUI.     so you might want to call and ask them about their recommendations for restrictions while you're stimming prior to O.    in general, i'm not sure i would risk it though (the nurse said that studies have shown that high body tempertures have been correlated with higher rates of miscarriage).
Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

Thanks!! No tanning for me.I'm not even going to call. My office is not very strict with anything, until you get pregnant. I'm not going to risk it by going tanning!! Thank you again!

  • I'd probably stay away from tanning beds...not just for TTC reasons, but overall health.

Have you tried any tanning lotions? What about a spray tan? I've heard good things about the spray tans that the salons do. I've not tried it, but I know people who have and they swear by it.

I have done spray tans and self tanners in the past, but I won't use them because of all the chemicals.  I've been hiding from the sun for a while now because it is so bad for you.

  • tanning is not worth the health risks. It used to be "en vogue" to be pale. I'm trying to make it cool again....

  • And if you are on any hormones, they may make you more sun sensitive. While I was on progesterone, even wearing spf 45 my breasts burned bad.  Nothing else on me though.  Guess the hormones were strong in that area, and just made that particular part of my body burn so easily.  It is weird.  Collarbone is fine- but where my fatty/breast tissue starts so does the sunburn. .
