For those of you who sew (or not), how hard do you think it would be to make a DIY dust ruffle for a crib?
Since I have very limited sewing abilities I'm thinking I could get the material I want and cut it to the correct length and hem it. Then to make the ruffle, couldn't I just hand stitch some thread through the top, sort of like a drawstring, and then tie it off? Is there a better way?
How much extra material would you account for to make a decent ruffle? 1 1/2 times the perimeter of the crib? More?
I'm actually considering applying velcro to the back of the ruffle and the other half to the metal frame that holds the springs just to cut down on more sewing. Do you see any problems with doing that?
For this baby, I just don't see the point in buying a whole bedding set. All I need is a sheet, a dust ruffle, and... that's about it. I use a breathable bumper so no need for extras like that.
I found a cute pattern for the sheets that I can use as inspiration to decorate the room, but they don't have a matching dust ruffle per se. The line with this pattern only includes fitted sheets and receiving blankets.
Is this project going to be more than I can handle or do you think it's doable.
Re: How hard would it be - dust ruffle
do able!
I would plan on 2x the perimeter, though, basing that on the concept used for window treatments. And the dust ruffle on MY bed has velcro! I bought one and then cut the inside out and added velcro! Much easier!!
Awesome! I love the idea of the box pleat. I hadn't thought about that and I really like the look better. (thanks for the pic!) It will also make the velcro go smoother. lol
You girls rock!
