hey mamas who've weaned...i have a question...

so, we've been fully weaned for about 10 days now. we did it very gradually so i never really exerienced any discomfort. however, for the last day or so, one of my breasts is very tender to the touch and sort of hard. anyone know if this is normal?? seems strange that it's bothering me now, 10 days after the last time i nursed!

I did not have that problem when Abby stopped nursing and ours was gradual as well. I lost my milk which is why we stopped, so I don't know if that would have anything to do with it. However, what you are describing sounds like when I had mastitis. If I were you, I'd probably call the OB in the morning to make sure you aren't getting a breast infection. GL!

And your new siggy is soooo cute! Dylan looks so grown up!

and yes, i had mastitis twice and this is sort of what it felt like. however, when i had mastitis it went from slight discomfort to 102 F fever in just hours. this seems more gradual and not nearly as severe. and i'm not sure what to do about it - don't wanna pump and massage and then stimulate more milk production! i will probably call our pediatrician (who is also a LC) in the a.m. but looking for others' experiences...

Something similar happened to me. A week or so after DD self-weaned one of my breasts was semi-hard and slightly painful. She had weaned gradually as well ... her second to last nursing session was actually a full four days before her last! Anyway, I tried to self-express a bit in the shower to see if it would relieve some of the discomfort and got nada. A day or so later, everything was normal.

I had a similar experience and it was so painful I let DS nurse one last time because manually expressing was not helping. I think it was 3 or 4 days later. After that last midnight nursing session everything went back to normal. Well... the girls will never quite be normal, but you know what I mean!
