Things to consider for in-home daycare?

My husband will be going to night school at the end of August which will mean changes to his stay-at-home status around a field practicum schedule for 16 hours a week.  We are just beginning our search for in-home daycare.  What are some things to consider, or questions to ask potential sitters, that other people have figured out?  I have basically thought about cost (I don't have that figured out), and about having some play dates with the potential sitter over the coming month to get everyone comfortable together.  Any thoughts?  TIA!

     Not sure how much help I will be.  You may just want to post this on 6-12.  I am currently in the process of getting licensed for an in-home daycare, so that might be an important question if it's not mandatory in your state.  Also ask for emergency plans, discipline plans, daily activities.  You may want to ask if you have to pay when your child is not attending.  I will be Child/Infant/Adult CPR certified, bloodborne pathogens certified, and first aide certified. 

     I'm sure you will get more hits with better advice though.

    Wait, are you talking about a sitter coming to your house or an in-home daycare? If it's the latter, I agree with a lot of what the PP said. DD was in an in-home daycare for a bit, and I looked first at licensing and what both our state and town required. I looked into safety standards, cleanliness, the activities/schedule, ratio and ages of other children. It helped that she had her own manual/handbook that outlines her policies. You'll want to know the policies for vacation, sick days, etc. Lastly, get references so you can talk with other parents who have used the center. GL in your search!
