Car pooling: Buy another car seat or keep moving mine?

My BFF and I carpool to work since we are in the same office and we live about a mile away from each other (and our office is 35 miles away). Before she went on maternity leave, I would move DS's car seat into her car for a couple days a week and then move it back to mine. Big pain. Now that her DD is going to the same DC as DS, I have a base for her car seat and it would be so much easier if there was a seat for DS permanently in her car. MH is complaining about having to buy another seat when we already have 3 (one for me, one for MH, one for my mom). Would you buy another seat or just suck it up and keep moving DS's seat? FWIW, I would just take MH's seat, but he does use it often enough that it would be really inconvenient for him not to have one. My mom picks up DS from DC everyday, so taking hers is out too.WWYD?

  • Look for a friend who is getting rid of seat.   Most people with one child get rid of a roundabout type seat and it still has some life left in it.

  • I would get a cheap one at Walmart or something.  They have the Costco Senera (rated pretty highly) for less than $45.  It's convertible and safe.  It's not as comfy as the Britaxes but just for the quick trips, it's perfect.  We have one for each of the girls in DH's car and even ones for my mom's car even though we only go there three or four times a year.
  • Since you said in your other post that he's tall and already 2.5, I would not get a scenera. He wouldn't have much longer in it, if he even fit in it at all. I would buy the extra seat if you can afford it.
  • Definitely not doing a Scenera. That's what my mom had before he grew out of it.... almost a year ago.
