NBR: Recommend your pool cleaning system

The first summer we had our house, we opened the pool and it took three weeks to get it from looking like a frog pond to something you would actually want to swim in (the previous owner neglected it for years).  Our pump/filter needs replacing, but that's not going to happen until next year, so in the meantime it takes more work to keep clean/algae-free.  We used a very expensive system for cleaning/shocking our pool that year and it worked ok, but I'm thinking there must be something less expensive and just as (or more) effective out there.  Anyone have any recommendations?

We have a DE filter.  It shouldn't be a frog pond when we remove the cover this year as we purchased a very high quality pool cover for it that helps "filter" the water in the off season.  We'll call the local pool place next week, but in the meantime I was hoping to do a little research.  Thanks.

Re: NBR: Recommend your pool cleaning system

  • Not sure if this helps at all. But my mom has a new saltwater system. It's cheaper and the salt is super cheap. Also, no problems with algae at all since we went salt.

As for a filter? Noooo idea. I just know that I loooooooooooooove the salt.
