i am high risk for a second time aorund and wonder if you ladies have any advice. I delivered DD at 27 weeks 6 days due to severe Pre-e.
This time around since ive been pregnant I have been on BP meds (nifidedpine), lovenox injections, 1500 mg of calcium, my prenatal, 81 mg of baby aspirin and now slow mag fe! I am doing everything the dr's tell me including Bloodwork every month and so far 2 24 hr urine tests.
I went for my 20 week us yesterday and for fetal dopplers. they couldnt tell the sex of the baby although Dr is 80% sure its another girl but he did say there was some umbilical notching again adn it usually goes away between 22 and 24 weeks however in my case it may not. Does this mean that once again I will have a preemie baby or do you think they will put me on bed rest? I am petrified of bed rest due to DD only being 15 months old and ds being 8. My husband cant leave work as he is our only source of income.
Any suggestions from some more experienced moms? Thanks in advance!
Re: high risk 2nd time around?(cation a little long)
Hi-
I cannot tell you whether or not you will end up on BR, and I hope you don't but I wanted introduce myself and tell you that I am in a very similar situation. I had DS last year at 27 weeks exactly due to severe pre-e. He is now 15-1/2 months old. We had a long road and 2 nicu's but he is amazing and doing really well. I am now 25 weeks pg with a baby girl. I have been closely monitored this go round and for almost 2 weeks now I have been on bed rest. My BP started rising around 17 weeks. I am not on any bp meds as I have no bp problems when I am not pg and my MFM subscribes to the theory that if I am on medicine I have to be in the hospital because it will mask other symptoms (liver or kidney failure).... The bed rest is actually helping and my bp has been pretty good since being on bed rest. My 24 hr urine has been clear and I am actually waiting to hear from the doc right now as to how my latest bloodwork is...
I also have a single umbical artery with this pregnancy (SUA). It means I only have one artery in the umbilical cord and there is supposed to be 2. There is also fluid on my daughters kidneys... These are both things that could be problematic and could mean nothing at all. We will find out when she is born because we are not doing any amnios or anything like that. The SUA often leads to IUGR (growth restriction) and that is another cause for prematurity... we have lots staccked against us this time around......
I was working before they put me on bed rest, and fortunately we are able to keep our son in his full time care - as if I still was working full time. This allows me to rest during the day, my DH still works and I do a little in the mornings and evening with DS (read books, get him to sleep, etc). If you are already a stay at home mom, I can see how tough bed rest would be. Do you have family around who can help you or maybe there are some vacation bible schools (usually free) you could send the kids to - hopefully you will not need that cause you can avoid bed rest!
Well, I hope you post a lot cause I am interested to hear how things work out for you.... Best of luck and talk to you soon!
Thank you so much. It helps a ton when other people have gone through or are going through what you are. noone else understands. My BP's have been a little elevated lately but not by much and today i did notice some slight swelling.(im hoping it has to do with the half of taylor ham egg and cheese hubby got me from our favorite breakfast place) I do know that with DD there was a certain percentage of clottage on my placenta (previous and current) so they are checking EVERYTHING this time around. I feel like I live at Dr's offices. I dont really understand what uterine notching is and cant seem to find much when i google it so i will be asking at my check up next week.Did you have to go for your glucose test early? Im doing mine on the 9th and ill only be just about 21 weeks. Im assuming its as a precaution. Other than all the appointments I have been trying to rest and take it easy. but since the summer is here and I also have an 8 year old its been kind of tough. I try to nap at least 2x's a day. (hubby lets me sneak one in around 5)
I just really want to avoid the whole NICU thing again. Granted DD did amazing and is a super healthy 15 month old it was really tough and I cant imagine doing it again with an 8 year old and a 17 month old.
Any advice or suggestions are always taken here!!
It is hard to say what the swelling could actually mean, especially during summer time... I would say focus more on your BP but since it is being controlled by meds, it makes it harder to know what is going on... is your swelling in your face or hands? If so, I would not dismiss it and see the dr. I think the notching is a blood flow resistance to the placenta but could be wrong... I hope all is well and I think your plan to rest as much as possible will pay off! I am taking my GD test on the 13 and I will be a little over 26 weeks, so not too early! I know what you mean about wanting to avoid the NICU again. That would be dreamy!!!!!
Happy 4th - take it easy!
