Re: Swaddle question

  • We are still swaddling.  Everytime I put him down for either bed or nap we swaddle or he'd never sleep more than 20 minutes at a time. (he likes flail his arms a lot when he sleeps and wakes himself up constantly)

  • I plan to swaddle as long as I can! ;) The thought of stopping is terrifying to me. I only swaddle for bedtime as part of our routine. Owen does great during nap time without it.
  • for the first three weeks we swaddled every time she was sleeping.. but after that i only swaddled at night time during the day we left her be.. i think it helped her figure out when it was bedtime.. we quit swaddling at four months. HTH
  • We just stopped swaddling 2 nights ago when we found her face down still swaddled. We did it for naps and night.?

  • we swaddled until 10 weeks but only at night
  • We quit swaddling at around 3.5 months, but that's only because she started rolling onto her tummy. We would've continued swaddling otherwise. We swaddled for naps and at night. Quitting cold turkey sucked.
  • We swaddled until about a week ago.  Had to stop because DS was rolling over too much.  He now wakes up twice a night whereas before he was sleeping thru the night :(  We were swaddling at nighttime only, not for naps.

  • We swaddled DD all the time when she was very young, but by about 1wk old we only swaddled at night... then we realized that she slept fine during the day without being swaddled and stopped swaddling her at night. She does fine. It may change in the future, but for now she's not swaddled unless it gets chilly.

My parents think we're making a huge mistake, too. lol.

  • We used swaddling up until about 4.5 months. Even if they seem to struggle in it, it helps immensely. Babies are so used to being snug inside of you... swaddling helps recreate that feeling. My suggestion to you is to read The Happiest Baby on the Block and you will understand the importance of it. Swaddling now will help you later on about 8 weeks when the fussiness begins :) GL!
  • After the first 24 hours at the hospital, the staff stopped swaddling and suggested we did, too.  Something about babies needing to learn to regulate their own body temperature.

But honestly, that's not why people swaddle anyway.

But we were afraid, so we didn't do it for a while.  Then I realized his little arms were keeping him from sleeping well, so we started to do it consistently, maybe at 5 weeks?

Now at 3 months, we don't swaddle anymore.  He's too interested in putting his hands in his mouth, and his arms don't flail anymore anyway.
