cord cauterized multiple times

We have been to the pedi 3 times to have the umbilical granuloma cauterized off DS. Each time it gets smaller, but it is still there. They are going to do it again on Monday before his 2 month shots.

Has anyone else had to do this multiple times?

    How frustrating!  We just had to have it done once with our second baby.  I would think that if it keeps getting smaller, then it will eventually go away, right?  How long has it been since the last time?  I thought we were going to have the same issue with Thomas, since there was still some of the cord left after the majority of it fell off.  It took a week or two to shrink down, but it went away on its own.  Our ped advised us to put a little rubbing alcohol on it 2 or 3 times a day to help it along.
