The first trimester I came home from work, ate dinner, and went to bed by seven every evening. The second trimester I felt much better and just napped occasionally. This trimester he's moving so much that I can't sleep through the night and while I have it easy (working twice a week) I still feel tired all the time. I know when he's actually born it's going to be much more intense. Are you getting used to being tired all the time?
Re: Do you just get used to being exhausted? Q. from 3rd tri
this
Couldn't have said it better myself. 3rd tri sleep sounds wonderful!
ditto.
You just get through it because you have no other choice.
Take peoples offer to watch LO so you can catch a nap...this worked wonders for me, when friends or family would watch DD for 2 hours so I could get a nap and prepare myself to be up and down all night.. especially during recovery from my c-section.
Now DD sleeps really well at night!
GL to you!
You just go with it....I expected my kid to be up all night, so when I got one who was *only* up every 2-3 hours overnight, I considered myself pretty lucky. But yes, you definitely get used to sleeping less. It's just a part of life with a newborn. I'm always amazed by people who complain that their 1 weeker isn't sleeping enough. What did you expect when you decided to have a baby? Only celebs STTN the first night home from the hospital.
You do get used to it. You just sleep whenever you can. Whether it's a 30 min catnap when LO is sleeping, then so be it.
I think I'm the exception to the rule, but I actually sleep better now than I did in 3rd tri. I had irritable uterus issues, so I was up many, many nights with contractions, in addition to several trips to the bathroom every night. Now that DS is here, DH and I split the night feedings, so we each end up getting at least one 4-hour stretch every night. One of the best surprises for me after having my son was how much better I feel all the time compared to how I felt during pregnancy.
Yes, it's just a way of life now.
Yep.
I sleep better now than 3rd tri too.
I woke up every half hour or hour to either pee or roll over when I was super pregnant. I was not comfortable sleeping so it was not that much fun.
Now even when Olivia was waking up every 2-3 hours or so, at least in between I was getting decent sleep. Now she usually sleeps from 9:00-10:00pm to around 5:00-7:00am. Plus when on maternity leave, I am able to sleep in when I can con her back to sleep until 9:00am. I am much better than 3rd tri, I don't want to go back for anything!
Agreed. You just do what you gotta do!
I agree. I did pretty well taking naps when I was home on maternity leave. Seriously, the house, the laundry, etc will wait. The "sleep when the baby sleeps" advice is true. You will do so much better.
For me, I was the most tired after I went back to work. The first month DS was still getting up once (sometimes twice) a night. I was soooo tired at work that first month. Fortunately DS started to STTN at 4 months and I was much better. We still have an occassional rough night, but I find I function pretty easily for a day or so with little sleep. You just do what you have to do.
