DH has this friend (and his wife) who are sort of---all natural, hippy-ish in many ways. They don't watch tv, use air conditioning, eat many processed foods, etc. Personally, I could care less how they live, it's just that I hate when people get all preachy and pushy about their beliefs.
We hung out with them this weekend, and it took everything in me not to freak out on them. When I ate cheetos, he commented on how awful it was of me to subject my unborn child to MSG. I got an earful about epdiruals and how much better it would be for me to attempt a natural birth, and apparently (DH just told me this now), when I was slathering on sunscreen they told him they were concerned that I was poisoning our baby with toxic chemicals. DH was lectured on how awful sunscreen is and how they couldn't believe I was using it versus an organic alternative. DH just told them I'm really careful and he trusts that I know what's best for me and the baby, but gah! This annoys me!
Re: Small Vent: Know It Alls
yep, that's what I was thinking. I don't mind if people want to live like this but once they start pushing their opinions on me... I say something and I'm not so nice.

So nice though that DH stuck up for you.
This. When they have kids, they can subject them to their own ways.
Wow, that's obnoxious. First off, MSG is DELICIOUS
and not dangerous. As for sunscreen - I had this conversation via email with a friend and nonsense about sunscreen being more dangerous than sun damage is a crock of crap.

LOL!
Atleast your hubbs stood up for you. I wouldn't have been able to control myself from flippin' a lid on them, though. I try to live by the whole "to each their own" theory but I can't stand pushy, know-it-alls.

I, myself, don't eat MSG or hydrogenated oils, or high frutose corn syrup for health reasons. I'm also not having an epidural. I have no idea about the sunscreen, cuz I'm never outside. lol. HOWEVER, I don't push these beliefs on my friends, even the pregnant ones! I was at my MIL's this weekend and had to purchase some food of my own because everything they eat is covered in grease and processed. I just can't do it. While I was there, she ASKED me why I didn't eat things, and then I told her why I choose not to.
Again though, she drives me crazy with her knowitall attitude about babies, and how I'll change my ideas when I have Keevia... yeah, doubt that.
I understand FULLY about know-it-alls, but they go both ways!
OMG funny you posted this - a co-irker earlier today was driving me INSANE recommending all kinds of Chinese Herbs, etc. that I "should be taking" instead of my prescription prenatals.
She said "My fiance studied Chinese Herbology and it has been around for thousands of years."
(Yes, and thousands of years ago, life expectancy was 30 yrs).
She meant well, and yes, there are many natural supplements that are beneficial, but she raves about things like this EVERY DAY.

Ugh, ya I can't keep quiet around these kinds of people. I got harassed at a mom's night out dinner last week about eating clam chowder. How gross clam were because they're filters in the ocean, etc. Shouldn't I not be eating that especially when pregnant.
I got all obnoxious and took big bites of my soup going, 'ummm, I love my ocean garbage. mmmm, so yummy', all in her face.
