do you pick up your LO right away

if he/she starts to fuss?  I wait a second to see if she stops and if she doesn't I go to her and pick her up, give her the paci, or pat her til she stops.

Re: do you pick up your LO right away

  • Not really.  I wait more like minutes, rather than seconds.  But my LO is old enough that I can distinguish between his cries and what they mean.  You'll pick that up in no time! ;)

  • I do. Zoe is like a light switch... either totally content making little coos and squeaks or upset. If she starts to actually fuss, it turns into a full-blown squeal in no time, so I try to cut that off at the pass. I try to get to her before actual tears come out, because if I see those with her little bottom lip pushed out, my heart just breaks.
  • at first I always picked her up but like PP said, now I know what is just impatient fussing and what is a basic need cry
  • At that age I would usually pick K up right away. Now that she is older and I can tell the difference between her fusses and cries I hold off a little longer.
  • At your LO's age immediately - but at my DD's age I wait.

  • When my LO was your LO's age - yes, I picked her up right away. Now I don't.
  • DS started making a lot of noises in his sleep, so I dont touch him until it's 2 cries in a row and then I try petting him and talk to him to see if he will quiet down, I do pick him up quickly if it doesnt help

  • I just started waiting a few minutes since my pedi told me that he needs to learn to put himself back to sleep.  I watch the clock and wait 3 minutes, if he's still crying I pick him up, calm him down, and then try to see if he'll go back down (depending on how alert he is).

you do know that 3 minutes to a 1 month old is an eternity, right? Way too young for any CIO that you're timing. Pedis sometimes suck.
