Baby Names

plain jane a sibling name?

My first daughters name is Elenore Pauline (lastname). I feel like it is a very beautiful, eloquent name.  But lately I have really been loving the name Jane. But I feel that in comparison it's kinda plain?

What do you all think?

Re: plain jane a sibling name?

  • Nothing wrong with Jane at all.... It's only plain if you buy into everyone else's opinions about it.

    Blank!
  • Jane is a lovely, timeless name & IMO, goes very well with Elenore/Eleanor (also a beautiful, classic name).

  • in my opinion, Jane is a great name and is somewhat uncommon for babies now (i think) so it will sound good with Elenore.
  • It's pretty, it's timeless and it's special because it'll be your little darling.
  • I like Jane. It's a nice classic name. I think is sounds nice w/ your dd's name.

Love it.  I don't think it's plain; I think it's elegant and romantic (think Jane Austen, Jane Eyre).
  • I think Jane is a beautiful and elegant sounding name.
  • I love the name Jane.  And it goes fine with Eleanor.  Maybe you could make it more un-plain with a longer, less traditional middle name?

Ditto....and it's not very common any more, either, which is a plus in my book.  I like someone else's suggestion of a longer or maybe exotic or femminissa middle name to pair it with.

    Jane Anastasia....Jane Cecilia....Jane Arabella....

I have only known 2 Janes in my life and I loved them both.

  • I also love the name! However, maybe if you paired it with a great middle name and THEN compared them, the two would sound more "even". Because I kinda sort get what you mean but the comparison is not fair at this point :) kwim?

But I think Jane is a fabulous first name with your DD's name!!

  • Jane is so gorgeous. I LOVE it. I don't think it's plain next to your dd's name. I think I will add it to my long list...
  • Jane is a beautiful timeless name! It goes really well with Eleanor/Elenore as they are both classics
  • Ooh, I really like Jane Cecilia!

Jane is a beautiful name and I think Eleanor and Jane sound like good sister names.

  • I don't think it's plain at all. I think it's great!

I think Jane and Elenore sound very good together, similar in style, etc. ?You could give Jane a wilder middle name in case you are concerned that Jane is too plain. ?I think it is a beautiful name.
  • I don't think it's "plain" at all and it goes perfectly with your daughter's name. I think the name is going to make a comeback any time now. I hear a lot of people mentioning it.

This.  I don't think Jane is considered "plain" anymore, because it seems really underused right now.  It's lovely, and if we didn't have a one-syllable LN, I would definitely consider it.
